Just bit the bullet and swapped my LPG 99 4.0SE Range Rover for a 2003 TD4 auto ES. Put £30 of diesel in and amazingly it went to 3/4 full. More amazing was after 30 miles it hadn't moved. :pop2:

Good to see a wide selection of different vehicles. I have to admit I didn’t realise the Freelander was so popular on this forum. Out of 135 votes, only 12 voted they would never have one. Just goes to show the tratta boys are slowly being converted to Freelander ownership. Good on you. You know it makes sense. Freelandering is the way forward. :):):):p:p:p

FL 1 1.8 XEI

K-Series
It's a better engine than you think, most peeps are scared of 'em and bleat constantly.
Mend it if it breaks and get on with it.

Just my opinion.

Freelander TD4 HSE Build date 13th September 2004

I collected it 10 days later and I've driven 92000 miles in it. :D

Best all round vehicle I've ever owned. I've driven just about every 4X4 you can imagine in ex-war zones on 3 continents and a Freelander was the choice when I decided to buy my own 4X4. :D

The M47R BMW engine built in Steyr Austria clinched it. :D

More than enough off-road ability for my purposes. I have driven up tracks that a UK farmer would hesitate to go with a tractor. Only the ground clearance has stopped me - on very, very few occasions. :(

It's comfortable on long journeys - I often travel over 2000 miles in 4 days, I love driving up (and down) Alpine passes :D and visiting old friends in the Balkans, but the daily run before I retired used to be 10 miles to work and 10 miles back. Great for that as well.

Considering my 'press on' driving style it's pretty economical too - I couldn't afford to go on my foreign trips with a bigger LandRover.

I love my Freelander and will keep it - until it or I finally give up. :D
