Hi,
I am new both here and to Landies, (more at home with sports cars...) I have what is apparently a 1991 Defender 110 with 200TDi, but the VIN seems to say it's a left hand drive V8 with 4 speed box, and various other letters which no one has heard of. Instead of starting SAL, it starts SAB. The next three letters are TVR. Can anyone tell me what I am driving here?!

Thank you both for your help. I have tried both suggestions, and have come to the conclusion that it must be an alien. It doesn't exist, and it crashed the Dutch site! Even a local Landy specialist has never seen a VIN like that before. I will have to investigate furthe as I'm quite intrigued now!
Cheers

How many digits do you have?

Who or what is BoB? The VIN has the usual 17 digits, they just don't make sense. From what I can gather it should start SAL but mine is SAB. The combination of letters and numbers after that doesn't relate to anything on the lists. I tried USA spec but that doesn't work either. Baffled.

It will always start with "SALL" if it doesn't be very suspicious and check it's authenticity.

Just a quick hijack to say thank you to OILDRIPPER.
I've been reading the recent threads on answers that just say - 'do a search'.
I was a newbie not long ago and to see an answer like this put a big smile on my face.
Nice one mate.

Just a thought
Landrover Specialist Vechiles
was the Santana ever badge as a Landy

Would it not be an idea to sticky Oil drippers post, or copy it into somewhere, just so it doesn't get lost in the introduce yourself section, Mods? ??????? ;);)

Agree with Grimmer - a great explanation to make sense of all those letters and numbers - and to help check that your landy is the 'real deal'
