Welding

Much nicer in hampshire....you could teach me then!

I have decided to do a few instructional videos on "how to weld" I have been asked to do some repairs on a series 2 landrover rear body section (the rear wing with the seat on the inside, its in good nick but it looks like it was ripped off the last chassis because the bolt holes have all been torn away.. so i'm patching it up.. its all aluminium welding with TIG so will be a good first video i think..

only thing i would suggest is a 22minute video is quite long, perhaps consider making it part one, and part 2?
Only saying is i am much more likely to watch a number of shorter vids like this than one long one, others might not agree though. you could split that video at the 11minute mark, then your talking about setup and stuff before hand, then actual welding in part 2.

otherwise, not bad for first go, perhaps try a microphone or something to make your voice a bit clearer.

lovely machine by the way, i am about to drop money on a r-tech mig. I have an r-tech arc and its lovely.
Have subscribed, will be good to see how this develops

I'm open to suggestions on next few videos.. MIG, TIG, Stick.. Welding stainless vertical up stick, MIG welding thin sheet. What ever people want to see..

thats cool, there are plenty of videos that show the normal stuff, welding in comfort on benches in normal angles, perhaps some videos of real world situations, thin to thick metal.

Nice, the cleaning of the ally part was something I had never seen before, really nice work, as has been suggested, a shorter intro to the work piece and the welding settings would be better and then a "part 2" with a quick summary and the welding in action, deffo a mic and (lord please forgive me if I offend this very nice man) a touch more enthusiasm and bubble, sort of like when you're explaining to your mates down the pub (good, the interwebs didn't break so he must have taken my criticism as constructive ).

Ha ha no offence taken at all, when i teach live it's nothing like the video, I think i was concentrating too much on the camera and thinking about not messing up to relax. so shorter a bit more oomph and maybe split the subject matter into separate videos if a big subject. great i have something to work towards

I just wish you were closer. I studied mech eng years ago and covered a bit then but 10 years on I have just bought my first disco and Mig! I spent all last night watching welding videos.

Happy to give you tips Resto.. wwhaat are you planning to weld.. chassis plates, body panels, overhead, vertical.. I do a short video specifically to suit what you want to do

Thanks Nige. I just put a thread up asking actually. chassis plates, arches, inner wings. there's obviously potential there for overhead and vertical. I doubt, unless really required that I will totally split chassis from tub.

Spit welding is best technique for wheel arches and similar thin plate with mig.. will look to do a short video simulating a wheel arch and some chassis plates

Just a little point I think you should suck a chest / throat lozenge before you do your video because your voice seems to be a bit hoarse I personally find the black Jakeman's cough sweets of great efficasey
