No but i got a funny look! Had a fag in me mouth at the time, dont think they look too kindly on that! Spesh as I only look about 14! Luckily he cun't turn around where we were :D cos me numberplate was hidden behind me wipers anorl

snigger - I flashed at a depender I saw coming my way with what looked like a light bar on the top.

Well it was a light bar. Fecking blues

depends on what you flashed ?

years ago, I offered a hand gesture to what turned out to be an unmarked police car, after the tw@t did an emergency stop and U turn right in front of me, causing me to do an emergency stop. Bugger me if he didn't do the same thing 100 yards behind me to come back and pull me over.

I was informed that we the public were not allowed to make obscene hand gestures to her majesty's finest, and that he was about to report me for the consideration of prosecution. To which my reply was "If you drive an unmarked car, it's whole purpose to remain undetected, like you just did, far below the standard of any police driver, how am I to know that you are indeed a police officer when I am offering a hand gesture ?"

I was then informed that we the public were not allowed to make obscene hand gestures to anyone and that he was about to report me for the consideration of a public order offence. He then asked me to turn out the contents of the back of the van, which I refused, and invited him to help himself if he so wished.

I once again expressed the opinion that the gesture was born purely out of exasperation of his poor driving, and that were I indeed taken to court over the matter, I would as a matter of course instruct my solicitor to retrieve and make public the CCTV footage of the incident, clearly showing his poor driving.

At that point, the young lad (well younger than me), received a very quiet (I never heard it) call on his radio, and had to leave on an emergency. He did let me know that he would be telling his colleagues to be keeping a special eye out for my van in future.

Which was funny really, because I was in a hire van, with the name of the very well known hire company down the side.

Yeah, always get waves in my Landie - always wave back if I see them in time and am not clinging onto the wheel through fear of death of falling out. Also get waves in my Astra MK2 - probably because they ae so rare now because most of them have rusted away.

lmfao...

I have got away with many minor traffic offences in my youth by being polite and subservient to Mr and Mrs Plod however one incident always has grated on me...

I was 18, first car, only just passed my test and was coming UP a long hill in Norwich (long for Norwich anyway) with parked cars the other side of the road and traffic in both directions.. as I had been taught, uphill with the parked cars the other side I kept on going... the car going the other way also kept going and I had to brake and pull over so my tyres brushed the kerb to not be hit by it...only to be stopped moments later by a WPC who informed me that I had 'almost forced her off the road'

rather than plead my case I was polite etc but I always wish I had told her exactly what I thought of a/ her driving and b/ her bullying tactics of stopping me after SHE ALMOST FORCED ME OFF THE ROAD...

reading your account just reminded me of it...
sorry to bore you all... :D

hehe a friend of mine not so long ago told an unmarked copper he was a w***ker after he came at us the wrong side of the road and got a ticket!!!

and as for the waving thing, i do it all the time, i have a lre sticker on the rear so maybe they wont think im so wierd once they behind me lol

although, i got more attention in the def!!

wass lre ? I started waving at land rover drivers from my freelander (commercial though), but got disheartened at the lack of any response. Then the other night, I was pulling a trailer back through blackwall to go through the tunnel to the right side of the water and stopped at the lights. Right as you like, a guy in a 110 pulled up along side. I was just admiring his 110, looked up, and he leant forward and gave me a wave and a smile. I wound down my window thinking I either knew him or something was wrong with the trailer. He wound down his window, looked at me and just said "Land Rover" and gave me the thumbs up. I thumbed up back, and off we both went.

What a gentleman.

(probably setting myself up for a fall here, given mines a freelander)

There easier to come by when covered in mud!
