Hello all,

I have a couple of warning lights appearing and dissapearing with no obvious pattern on the dash of my '03 TD4. They are the TC and car going downhill orange symbols. The landie's performance is unaffected but he is due a service (thanks for all the advice on the previous thread).

Also there is a reservoir at the back left of the engine bay that contains orange fluid (currently just under MIN). Can anyone advise me on what this could contain? Someone has written AFOK on there - Aircon Fluid OK maybe? Or is it brake fluid and this low level is triggering off the TC symbol?

Any advice very welcome,

Thanks, CJS1.

The lights are Traction Control and Hill Descent. When it goes for servicing tell them at the garage and they will have a look to see if there is anything bad going on, but it could just be a loose wire dirty contact /sensor kind of thing. It doesn't seem to be unusual for these to come on occasionally. You can also search the forum and you will find information about brake light switches and bulbs. Search for "3 amigos", but if it's only very occasionally happening I wouldn't bother too much about it.

AFOK. I think that'll be Anti Freeze O K. Wouldn't hurt to top it up if it's on the min mark, but make sure you use the right type. There are two. Have a look here Bluecol - Antifreeze Coolant for the basics. There are stories of peoples coolant turning to jelly when the two types are mixed, and that's not good.

I'm guessing you aren't mechanically minded. Have you considered getting the owners manual for the car? The forum is a great resource, and I bow to the great knowledge and experience of some of the people on here, but if you are stuck in a car park with a broken car and all it needs is a fuse replaced having the book in the car could save you an awful lot of grief.

Thanks for the advice both, and Sparky you are right, i'm not mechanically minded nad not afraid to admit it. Always used to buy a manual when I run my old cars years ago (406, Cavalier etc) but I have been taking new cars for granted and putting them in a garage for service / repairs as a matter of course.

Am enjoying dirtying my fingers again, but do miss plugs and points!
