Td4 clutch master cylinder

Hello. I need advice on the removal of clutch master cylinder , on 2007 freelander 2 td4 . After opening up bleed valve on slave, no fluid comes out. So need to look at master, I can't see the blinking unit ,never mind remove. Do I work underneath the car or in engine bay ? What needs to be removed in order to get access? And I guess I'm right in assuming the fluid reservoir for the brakes doubles up for the clutch . And anyone know what that high pitched noise is , that occurs for a short while after depressing the clutch pedal. With engine not running . Many thanks .
