Hi all.

Thought I'd share this with you in the hope it stops anyone from wasting their time entertaining this ****er on ebay. A long read but please bare with me.

Couple of weeks back I spot a set of 35" Simex's on ebay, set of 4 on 15" modular wheels in the excact spec I wanted (35x10.50) priced at £600, I emailed the guy asking for more detailed picture of the tread showing the depth in the centre. After getting no responce I decided that I didn't really have the cash spare anyway and it being a 400 mile round trip I wouldn't bother continuing to pester the guy.
The auction ended then I got an email from Ebay saying it had been relisted again but this time as an auction and starting at £450. "Sod It" I thought and I placed a bid of £450 on them.
Four days past its now Sunday (yesterday) and I'm still the winning bidder and as it happened I was going to Coventry in a van to sell some car parts at a boot sale. Now it was only an extra 150 miles on my journey and in my red bull induced haze I thought I'd call the guy and try to sort out a deal.
Called and no answer, had no voicemail so sent a text explaining who I was and why I wanted to talk to him. In less than a minute he called me back.
During the conversation I asked how much tread was on the tyres making sure I specified I wanted to know the depth in the middle of the tyre. His response was just under an inch and they had had very little use and very in excellent condition.
Bit strange I thought as later we descovered they only come with 17mm from new but put it down as him not having much grasp on what an inch actually in in mm.
After a bit of bartering with him we agreed on a price of £485 with bolts, result I thought got a bit of a bargain there. Text him one last time asking if he could measure the tread depth and send it over to me, his reply was he wasn't there at the moment and was an hour away. Got his address and off to Yorkshire we went.
Arrived in an estate near to a massive power station around 6.30pm and pulled up outside the address he had given me next to a shop.
Rang the guy, no answer, rang again, still no answer. Sent a text saying I was at the address and again he called me almost straight away.
Conversation was a bit odd, he told me he was stuck at the pub and couldn't come down but his mate was there and would come outside and meet me. Bit strange but went along with it.
Couple of minutes later a bloke come up to the van and tells us to come to the yard round the back.
We get ushered through a corregated metal gate and into a yard with a few transits semi-stripped in the corner and three workshops with stripped cars inside.
He points to a stack of offroad tyres against the wall and tells me to pull up infront with the lights on so I can look at them.

As soon as he passes me the first one I know they wern't as described. Measuring the tread depth in the middles comes back as 7mm from the wear markers, not happy.
All four tyres have the same amount of tread and two of them are so badly cracked on the inner side wall that they are no use for the road and very dangerous to use at all!
Seeing I'm clearly not happy the bloke rings his mate and passes the phone over to me. The guy seems to think its no big deal he neglected to mention to true condition of the wheels and even has the cheek to say best he can offer is £450 as there easily worth that!
At that point I tell him I need to chat with my mate for a couple of minutes and I'll call him back as I didn't want to get in a row with him in some dark yard incase it kicked off.
He mate then tells me I need to drive back out to the road as he is half way through painting a car.
Back the van out and he shuts the gate, I then call him back and tell him there not worth anywhere near what he wants for them and he should have been clear from the start as I wasted £50 in diesel driving there and back for nothing. He remains adiment that they are worth the money and theres nothing when with them so I put the phone down and drove the 200 miles back home very angry.

These are the wheels in question:

Currently I'm the only bidder as I can't seem to cancel my bid though tbh I'm happy to win it as I can then list the reason why I'm not buying them.

As I say this is a warning to others as they are not as described and something seems very dodgy about the whole setup.

Cheers Chris

do like i did last night have a stern moan at ebay on there live chat insist they do someting about it dont let up on them ask them for regular updates and insist the person hwom your talking to deals with it or they will pass you on to another department which is the person next door

My nan was bidding on a washing machine, she got outbid, luckily as my grandad went a bit mad lol

She checked this morning and the highest bidder backed out, saying they had put the wrong amount in, so it made her highest, she thought bugger this, did the same, said she'd put the wrong amount in.

If my nan can do it, you can mate :)

Really not bothered about if my bid is on there on not I'm not asking for assistance on that (thanks for link and advice though)
I purely put this on here incase someone else had seen the wheels and thought I'll have those for a bargain price. I'd be happy knowing no-one wasted an hour/afternoon/day going and seeing this blokes mate in a dodgy lock up to look at wheels that are worth about 200 quid.
