I fitted a 3.5 RR V8 with an SD1 bellhousing to a reconditioned 90 short stick 5 speed box and transfer box to my Series III Lightweight a few years ago but now want to get the beast back to (reasonably) original condition. Using the short SD1 bellhousing means it all fits in nicely without having to push the radiator panel forward. It even runs with a standard Series III radiator without overheating. I had the propshafts rebuilt, the front slightly lengthened and the rear slightly shortened so it all worked. It all picks-up on the standard engine and gearbox mounts so as far as the mechanics are concerned, it really is a bolt in modification.

Goes well and the gearbox is a dream.

As with all V8 conversions it did need the passenger footwell slightly trimming. I also needed to slightly modify the tunnel and seatbox as the gear levers come out slightly further back. Minor stuff.

My cunning plan is to find someone with a good two and a quarter diesel and Series III four speed gearbox who wants to do do a direct swap. I don't want any tatt though as the gearbox did cost a pretty sum.

If you want I'll swap the gearbox tunnel and seatbox too to save you any tin work in that direction (the 90 handbrake lever is fitted here so it makes sense). I have fitted a pair of Volvo leather seats so the seatbase has been drilled for these, but no great crime.

Comes with low-tech minimalist exhaust which has been through a few MOTs.

So if any of you out there fancy a no-cost V8 5 speed swap in to your Series III two and a quarter diesel, give me a shout.
