About once a decade or so I remember I'm meant to check the oil and water in my beast- have got the oil thing all sorted but the water thing is a bit more problematic. Two issues....

My neighbour last week said the water was meant to go in the radiator but i've always put it in the round plastic thing with the screw cap- which is right ?

Secondly.. when you do put the water in, it normally needs loads- I remember that I have to put de icer in but never know how much of it to put in- end up guessing - lots if its cold , not so lots if its not so cold- again does it matter exactly how much ?

you don't want to put de-icer in....... its anti-freeze/coolant that you want!

you really want a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze to water, from the sounds of it your 110 really needs a service! when was the oil/ oil filter last changed? what about the air filter? or the fuel filter? not to mention the anti-freeze!!

and yes your neighbour is correct they should be topped up through the top of the rad and the expansion tank should be kept at the correct level also

If you are using loads of water........i'd be a little concerned.....

Generally it will tell you on the coolant bottle what mixture is best depending on the temperatures in your part of the world.

The ''round plastic thing with the screw cap'' is called the expansion tank and you should fill up into that...

I did mean anti freeze not de-icer -honest - when i do remember it usually takes about two kettle fulls of water-cant mix the ratio before pouring it in coz it makes your next cupa taste ****e......

so can i confirm I can fill up into the expansion tank

System holds about 11 litres (I filled mine on tuesday!) 3 litres of antifreeze and 8 of water will protect to about -15/-20, which should be sufficient for the rest of this winter - even up here. :)

i can say what i like here because i am being ignored so

**** **** cock **** bollocks analprolapse nipplecheese

not ignoring- missed post coz emptying the dryer- I do get it serviced once a year and they do all those kind of service type things- I do (ish) diesel, oil, water and tyres( well that lest one is pushing it actually if Im honest )

2 kettles (if they is anything like my kettle it will hold 1.5l of water) so 3litres thats quite a lot too loose in a system that only holds 11l...... i would look for leaks or steam from the exhaust (or maybe steam from the expansion tank cab when the system is pressurised and hot.......)

havent noticed any leaks and how do you check for steam from exhaust when youre driving ? haven't noticed any steam coming from the front

erm don't drive while checking once the engine is at running temp get someone to look at whats coming out of the exhaust there should be no steam (steam normally means head gasket ask the gaylander owners about this problem)

in the 3 years i have had my series 3 it has used no water.........

Check to see if there's any furry stuff around the ends of yer hoses and check the hoses for any splits.
Instead of usin' the kettle, try an empty lemonade bottle tae mix yer coolant in;)

what does furry stuff round your hoses mean then ?

Would love to say that I could remember to have the empty bottle to hand at the same time that I have my blinding flash of inspiration to check the things- taken me this many years to use the kettle- used to use a pint glass but couldnt fit it under the bonnet at the right angle without spilling half
