veggie or sunflower oil

running my disco on vegie oil, but im wondering can I use sunflower oil as well.

run it on what you like, theres threads in here of folk using engine oil, 2 stroke etc (in small quantities)

have a search its been covered before many times.

all the info ive been able to find is for vegie oil not sun flower oil, so sun flower oil is fine.
I do like the idea of running it on 2 stoke, that would smell so so nice

I wouldn't run my disco on it

just had a look at the link and in the pros & cons it says "Have to pay tax to customs and excise" is this true as I was told I could use 25000l befor I had to tell C&E or pay any tax on it
Pleas help as I have a bitch of a neighbour who thinks she can report me for everything I do

yes you can, there will probably be some effects but none more than other plant oils, the cost of sunflower oil is greater than vegetable oil ( usually rape seed). did hear something once about somebody using waste olive oil while in north africa - cant for the life of me remember where though.

meant to add, as for the neighbour, start the monitoring process - anybody that officious is probably covering something up.

can get sunflower cheaper thn veg at the min so ill stock up whilst its still on offer

Its yer own fault for ****in on her marigolds Yes you can use veg oil without paying tax on it unless you use a huge amount of the stuff . They changed the law about it a couple of years ago. So let her report you ! Just dont put any other type of fuel [apart from diesel or petrol] in the tank.

tesco has veg oil on 3 x 1l bottles for £2.50
as for my neighbour its the wife's fault she told her to do parenting lessons:doh:as she has 2 kids and dont like / know how to look after them

Every one has a 2500lt per year personal bio fuel use limit before paying tax.The year is not per calender year but any 12 month period from start to finish ,ie rolling year.Once you exceed this you are expected to declare it and fall for tax on the lot.
Bio fuel is defined as:biodiesel,or vegetable oil as far as diesels are concerned.You can dilute your fuel with derv or petrol only (tax paid)
As far as customs are concerned you should keep a log of what and when you put in your tank,as proof of your biofuel usage.
You cannot legally use:white spirit,red diesel,atf,engine oil etc.
Sunflower oil is just another vegetable oil and will run fine,but rapeseed or soya tend to have the better low temperature performance,some data below.

OK this is the olive oil story. Trust me I grow olives. There is no waste. It has a very low oxidation level, like butter, if you heat it too much it will burn and turn to crap, bitter and foul. You can not even fry with it above 180o it transforms into a mess. OK on a salad. Used as a sub for butter on bread.. Cant see it as a fuel. If my Berber friends could, they would. They dont.

Went in ASDA last night and veggy oil is £3.09 for 3 ltr bottles & £1.29 for 1ltr bottles so not worth doing it any more as only saving 10ppl. am looking for a cheaper source at the mo

sunflower oil is better then any other easily obtainable oil with a melting point of -17c, some guys run it all last winter but normally the price is about the same as derv unless its on offer.

Bookers is the best place to buy veg oil around 75p/L

Can't see why it would not process into nice biodiesel(methyl esters),but I have never had any so have not tried-sample?

chug, on the veg forum uses olive oil to make biodiesl and has said it fine.
