Yes and probably. But as there is no way for them to tell when you started using the oil. They'd find it difficult to prove how much oil you'd used.

I only do about 3000 miles a year in my landy so even if customs wanted to get arsey unless they can prove I only get about 1.2 miles to the litre they'd have a job on prosecuting cos it shows yer mileage on yer mot certificate.

Just a thought guys, no good to me as I dun have a D, but why dont you buy your oil form the local chippy, get him to get you and extra drum (25l i think is the size) and you pay him. Dunno the costs, but if he makes a little on it and as a trader can get it cheaper in th first place.....it may work ouf both of you, and you get the metal can it came in, useful for all sort of sutff once you've cleaned it out.
Of course, once you get to 2500L you WOULD all start paying duty, wouldn't you.

I hardly use my landy really. I used to keep a jerry can of denzel in the back but now I am going 'green' I have just put a second one in to fill up with veg oil. If I were using my landy as a daily driver I probably would do as you suggested but even as it is at the moment I am saving a fair bit.
veg oil 56p a litre, derv £109.9 a litre. It brings the average cost down to aroun 98p a litre
