do not know much about them but at least they are telling you it has been reconditioned, not like freelanderspares who have changed their name to landrover spares north east , I had one and it let me down in deep snow and I am disabled and can not walk far it was a good job another landrover owner came along ,I also brought a drive shaft which they said was new it rusted within 2 weeks
 
From their feedback, they have been selling these since December 2012.

I was very happy with the unit I had from Bell, as others on here have been.

It could be that they are supplying a good product and the best of luck to them.
 
hi all, ebay policy has its faults if youre a seller or a buyer, but one thing it will do if the seller refuses to, is refund the purchase price if an item is not fit for purpose. it might be long and drawn out but if you bombard the seller and then ebay with the term 'not fit for purpose' 'not as described' you will always get your money back. its not like ebay are even that much cheaper than buying anywhere else anymore so you wouldnt be buying at a suspicious price.
 
There's loads of vcu sellers popping up everywhere. Many have started using dodgy phrases like "reconditioned genuine LR part" to associate their product offer with a genuine item.

What they really mean is it was genuine to start with, prior to reconditioning. In the same way a reconditioned ird with a £3 set of cheap nasty bearings isn't a genuine LR part. It was previously, but not after it was reconditioned.

Prices are creeping up too.
 
With Ebay, things like VCUs you pay your money and take a chance. If the seller has used the wrong fluid, the VCU could be to tight and cause damage.
It's best to use someone recommend that has been doing VCU rebuilds for years ;)
 
If GKN and presumably LR are the only peeps to know the eggsact fluid to use, then that means all recon's are guess work. One wheel up test results vary quite a bit even for the same recon supplier.

If you buy on ebay at least you have some protection to return it as long as it's not damaged/used and within the 7 days distance selling rules. It's not hard to test. Pay with paypal and you have their support too.
 
I've just been looking , I always look for stuff on ebay

What got my attention is the 12 month warranty they offer
However considering all ins and outs I will go and get one from Bell's.
They are known to have good recon units and should the recon unit prove to knacker my IRD for example, I think I have a better chance of a good after service

Just need to get my timing right as I'm hoping to use someone's ramp
 
I would certainly buy from a company that was recommended on LR Forum and avoid ones that weren't . I bought from Bell's a year or so ago and have had no problems, why buy from some scum bag seller on auction sites when others have and learnt from their mistakes.
 
Having 1 supplier only is a bad thing. Price will go up and there won't be anyone willing to join the market producing recon vcu's. Prices are already creeping up as it is.
 
Problem seems to be that you can only go on other members previous experiences, I would never recommend a supplier that I'd not personnally used myself. I expect buying from your LR dealer would be a safe reccomendation but who wants to pay their prices when you have a suitable tried and tested alternative. Maybe a survey/poll of members, with all the various suppliers listed, listing their own experiences would be helpful. I can see your point about only one trusted supplier and unnecessary price increases but not sure that I'd like to be a guinea pig and try out a supplier that hadn't been recommended.
 
Good job Tesco don't do VCU's or they'd now be more expensive than LR. Off thread but couldn't resist the Tesco comment as just back from doing weekly shop:(
 
I've been watching prices of vcu's from different sources for some time now. Prices are changing all the time. Those with lower prices seem to be rising them to meet those with higher prices. Praps realising they can get more for what they're doing. Praps more confident now business is running smooth. I can confirm I'm a Sains burys hippo. I only use tes co rarely when my preferred store has run out of something. Last week it were parsnips and leaks. I likes leaks I does. Easily mountable is bearings for a quick road side repair. ;)

Ours haven't changed in price for years ;) in fact the overall price has come down as we negotiated a better postage rate

One seller increased 20% + vat in the last week for new units. Interesting to see such a big increase in one go. Post rates are interesting. We always get discounts at work but when bought by a bigger group the price dropped to levels we couldn't believe due to group volume.
