Hey guys, wife's Disco 4 TDV6 3.0 ran low on oil, not sure on extent of damage but not sounding too hot.. drained remaining oil and filled with fresh (didn't see any shavings / in oil) and added 'lifter treatment' ...is quiter but still tapping away !! I reckon will require new/remanufactured engine... seem to be a few companies out there who will provide following service.. for around £3K mark..
Has anyone used either of these companies or can you recommend anyone.. Thanks

1. WE RECOVER YOUR VEHICLE
2. REMOVE YOUR ENGINE
3. COMPLETELY STRIP THE ENGINE AND PUT IT INTO A CHEMICAL TANK
4. REMOVE ENGINE FROM CHEMICAL TANK AND PUT IT IN A HOT WASH
5. FULLY RECONDITION THE HEAD. SKIM, PRESSURE TEST, RESEAT ALL VALVES AND REPLACE ANY DAMAGED ONE, FIT NEW VALVE STEAM SEALS
6. CHECK PISTONS FOR ANY MAJOR DAMAGE AND WEAR THEN FIT NEW PISTON RINGS
7, CHECK CONRODS FOR DAMAGE AND WEAR
8. CHECK AND POLISH THE CRANKSHAFT AND REGRIND IN NEEDED
9. FIT NEW MAIN BEARINGS AND BIG END BEARINGS
10. REBUILD ENGINES USING ALL GENUINE OE GASKETS AND SEALS
11. REPLACE TIMING CHAIN OR TIMING BELT WHICH EVER IS FITTED
12. TEST INJECTORS BEFORE REFITTING
13. CLEAN & CHECK TURBO INTERCOOLER
14. CLEAN AND CHECK TURBOS BEFORE REFITING
15. CLEAN DPF
16. REFIT ENGINE TO VEHICLE

Another Ive spoken to is Oval Autos in Cradley Heath..seemed pretty straight up on phone said depending on condition of turbos etc would be between 3K and worse case scenario £6K depending on damage..

The TDV6 engine is prone to failures if not maintained properly. We've seen many types of failures such as 1/Hole in the block 2/Timing belt tensioner displacement 3/Snapped crank 4/Worn bearings ~See photos!
Each engine is stripped down and inspected. The cylinder heads are chemically cleaned to remove any carbon deposits, then skimmed, crack&pressure tested. The valve seats are recut and lapped, then new stem seals fitted. The hydraulic lifters & followers are cleaned/inspected and replaced if required.
The camshafts are cleaned/inspected and measured.
The engine block is deep cleaned and measured.
The crankshaft is either polished or reground to a new specification.
The crankshaft is balanced along with the con-rods, pistons, flywheel and front pulley.
The pistons are cleaned and measured
As well as the normal checking, machining and cleaning, each of our reconditioned engines includes the following NEW items;
Full top and bottom OEM gasket set
Piston Rings
Oil Pump (FoMoCo)
Full (front & rear) timing belts & tensioners
Water Pump
Timing chains, guides & tensioners
Main bearing
Big end bearings
Oil Filter
Front & Rear oil seals
Our best practice service also includes;
Fuel injectors fully tested
Turbo inspected
Recovery and recharge of A/C gas
Complete change of brake fluidComplete change of anti-freeze
Gearbox & Diff oil levels checked
EGR valves are cleaned & inspected
Once the engine is fitted, we run it up to operating temperature, check the correct oil pressure is produced and check for any problems. Once we are satisfied, the oil and filter are replaced. We then stamp your service book for oil & timing belt replacement. We only use Castrol Magnatec in our engines.
Surcharges
As is normal with any reconditioning service, any MAJOR parts that can not be used such as crankshaft or engine block are subject to a replacement surcharge.
Warranty
All of our engines come with a 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty
Only after the engine has passed all inspections, been road tested and the car fully valeted, is it ready to be returned to our satisfied customer.
