I'v just tried to insure a 2000 TD5 GS, inputed the number plate and was told she was an ES, however its deffo a GS, no leather, no elec sunroofs... So checked out the V5 form to see that lovely old LR have told the DVLA its a ES, which increases my insurance hell of alot. We've called LR who apparently need to tell the DVLA what it really is before they can send out a new V5 form.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem or know how long LR take to process this sort of rubbish?!

Best part is my old man's been running it for the last 8 years without realising he's been payin too much for insurance!

Cheers

Dave

did have a similar problem with my MGZS, when i got a HPI check and every time the reg was typed in at a parts shop and when i rang the AA it came up a diesel which it wasn't!
so its not just in the LR office its next door in the MG department that haven't got a clue what there doing!! :D

not just the offices of "BL" that has problems, my Astra van has on the V5 that it is an Astra Van LS Diesel, yet the fuel type is petrol

When I broke down in my Landy the RAC took the reg number and it showed up on the DVLA system as a Ford Transit Connect Van ????

Could be something to do with it has had 2 private plates and then re-registered on the now N-Plate.

All sorted now.

the motor factors near me have a thing on the computer called part finder, it links to dvla, they were saying that its about 80% correct...
out of all the cars that on on the road dos that mean that 20% of them are not what the owner thinks its registerded as? how would you go on in a crash god forbid..... the v5 says petrol and you havent noticed, as dos the isurance certificate...... and the car is deisel.. who is left to sort out that mess.

That could be a good thing ;-)

Imagine if you have a crash and you have paid for the ES then they will have to bring your car back to ES spec, lol.

Then again if this was try I will now go out and insure my Truck as a 355 Ferrari and have a crash, like to see them try and change my truck into a Ferrari, lol.

Even though people think their database is linked to dvla most dont, they are actualy third party systems such as autoglass or auto windscreens

Hello all, I have searched all 10 pages of anything relating to 'v5' as well as three other vehicle forums I'm a member of, and google, but found no answer to this particular problem. My n-reg 300 tdi disco states discovery es on the v5 and I'm insuring it as such. Only thing is, it's a plain Jane model with nothing luxurious at all.
So my questions are,
What happens if I crash?
What happens if I sell?
How can I change it?

I have dealt with dvla before and lost a motorcycles identity because of their incompetence. I don't want anything like that to happen again.

Sorry for dragging up an old post, but thank you in advance.

1. Ask you insurance company. Hope the VIN is correct for the reg/ model year.
2. If you sell hopefully the new owner won't check the V5 in detail, did u?
3. You can't but the DVLA can.

No need to drag up a near 4 year thread start a new one.
