Urgent: Badly overheated. I don't dare turn off.

I've found a hole in me rad. Tiny little thing but water dropped again over the last few days so i took another look. It is underneath the bottom pipe, around the outlet weld. I was quoted £140 for a core replacement, and now a little more to plug the hole... I'm gonna buy new.

BM do a aluminium rad for £113.26 plus the dreaded on LRDirect. Anyone know of anything better for around the same price?

If EVER an engine gets hot, turn it off ASAP, there is never going to be a situation that leaving an engine on tick over will cool it more than just turning it off straight away. (Unless you have a separate waterpump system and can pump the water around the engine when it is off, that would help...) :scratching_chin:

When my rad was a bit blocked up the temp would creep up towards the red towing the caravan up a long hill. Stopping at the top of the hill with the engine running would take all of the load off the engine immediately so it could start to cool down. Because the engine was still running the water pump and fan were still running, allowing the engine to cool down quicker than if it was turned off.

Yes there's times an engine will cool quicker if left running depending on the circumstances. But an engine will always cool down if turned off.

The OP had a cold rad.

If in any doubt turn it off

Suspect an overheated K Series with a cold rad is beyond cooling
