Urgent: Badly overheated. I don't dare turn off.

Afternoon guys. I'm currently sat at the side of the road with a very over heated 300tdi. It will not cool down. I don't want to turn it off. I have shops near me. What can I do to cool it down?

The rad is cold so no water getting to it.

I've turned off and will turn back on for 30 seconds every couple of mins

Turn it off before it does it itself!

Leave it off, bonnet up, dont touch anything for an hour

Ok done. You sure not a quick start up ever 5 mins?

Why would you start it every 5 mins :doh:

Of the thermostats broke and shut it's not really going to help it cool down.

and if the rads cold your thermostats probably gone

Leave it to cool naturally, it's not cooling so starting up will only make it worse

I blew a head and seized a tractor before. Rad was cold too. Turning it off was what ####ed it so just asking.

Ok. It's off and staying off. I have tools and a spare thermo so just a waiting game now. Missus has walked off to get some water. Maybe a blow job when she gets back to kill some time If anyone is passing through Wragby, do not approach the matt black disco before making yourself known

How is it supposed to cool down if you keep holding it at boiling point.

Turn it off. Leave it off and leave the bonnet up to get the cool air to it. If you keep starting it up you are risking the engine.

Thermostat is likely but dont do anything until it's cool

its already been on for longer than it should have been......wonder how close to the red it was

It was between top line and red unfortunately I don't know how long for. I've become relaxed about looking as things have been going so well recently. I just got a very slight wiff of heat which made me look.

feel the pipes though, check they are really hot and it's not just a faulty gauge/wiring

the rads cold all over, it should be hot all over or at least warm specially in this weather

TBH it's probably cooked now anyway

Prolly either the thermostat as has been said or a ****part water pump and the impeller is no longer fixed to the shaft.

no it wasnt ,it was been to hot switching engine off didnt cause any damage it was already done
