unidentified electrical component

I have a component in the engine bay, attached to the bulkhead, just above the brake master cylinder. At the moment, it has 2 wires attached, that disappear through the bulkhead, although there is a third spade on the component unconnected.
I can't work out what this component is - can someone identify it for me please.

Are you going to give us any clues as to what vehicle this is fitted on?

The colour suggests something military, and military vehicles often had electrical equipment that civilian ones didn't.

Sorry for that. It's a 1973 series 3 swb, civilian. Hasn't been mot-able for many years.

Doesn't need an MOT if it is Historic Registered, although it should be roadworthy and all the MOT stuff working.

I don't know what it is, but quite happy with @KISSMYAURA 's suggestion if he knows what it is^^^^^^^^.

I must have seen one before, but I don't think I have had a Series 3 since the 80s, and 2as have a footswitch to dip the lights.

Flux Capacitor?

Looks like a capacitor or a resistor.......
HOWEVER ........wiring diagram suggests a flasher relay


two pin here

If it tick's may well be an indicator flash unit but ticking and no flashing then run it might go off.

Don't be silly. FC only works at 88mph, and my Landy is never going to be capable of that (except if dropped off a high bridge).

It's odd that it's in the engine bay, as the driver is unlikely to hear any ticking (not that they care too much!). I think i will only find out for sure when i strip the dash, and work out what the wires from the component connect to. I will post a reply when i find out (but that is a few weeks away).

the wiring diagram says yes!

Could be lights on the dash which flash to show the indicators are flashing. More use than an audible warning in a Land Rover.

exactamundo... rattle and wind soundtrack of a defender drowns out the radio let alone a relay clicking lol
Its the same relay according to the wiring diagram bimetallic spring, they get hotski!

Even with the optional indicators on early models, a Series 2a has an indicator warning light.
So I am fairly sure a Series 3 will, although it is many years since I have driven one.

My 2a had something similar just mounted in the dash shelf next to the steering wheel.
It only made a ticking noise when trailer was on. Some sort of booster for the extra indicator lamps on the trailer I recon.

I am going for a Flasher relay, possibly to convert to 4-way ?
