Dear all, MOT guy helpfully noticed my NS rear brake light not functioning - easy job I thought, just a new bulb.
But no! Behaviour was:
DS brake light on = NS side light on
DS side light on = NS nothing
DS side and brake light on = NS nothing
Confusion, much checking of wires, voltages, contacts etc. resulted.
To cut a long story short it was the NS grey plastic right angle connector widget (the one the bulb plugs into - pic attached)
This disconnects from the black plastic wire termination block. Although I couldn't see anyting wrong with it (should have checked with multimeter), replacing it with a very handily available spare fixed the problem.
Hope this little experience saves someone some time, so many of the posts on here have been useful to me.
My thanks to Bryan for this post on wiring colours: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/rear-stop-light-not-working.338233/post-4405302
cheers

Yes these bulb holders are the first port of call if you know the bulb is ok & you have power to it. I've had two fail but a quick continuity check with a MM will show if its faulty (I must get round to cutting my dodgy ones open to see whats happened inside).
