Newbie here hi everyone. I have a K plate disco tdi. At the moment see I'm learning (moment) it sounds smooth and comfortable on local trips yet to do the 140 mile round trip home let alone speedway trips season starts soon so how are discoverys on the motorways pretty confident but how do I treat it? I've got my full roadside cover so that's sorted.

Tyres what makes good for motorways but ok for greenlaning? everyone's different on
here got me lost in thought. (safe rubbers) or is it best to have two sets?

Ive found in the past chunkies good in the dry but not aa good as normal tread on the road in the wet .quicker to lock up with out abs and suffer from understeer ..
But drive accordingly and ok but be aware also if hit a deep puddle inroad on nearside chunky tyres seem to grab more and pull over more than normal tread

And I'd've fought that you'd lose quite a bit of chunky rubber doing a lot of motorway driving with MTs on. When I had a Disco I kept two sets of wheels, one with chunkers on the other road tyres for when I did trips up to Scotland 'n stuff.

I, somehow, don't think I'll have that dilemma with Scratchy...

1. Less grip with MTs on road - they ain't designed for it.
2. Your fuel economy will suffer.
3. A bit noisier but nothing to write home about
4. Unless you use a good quality premium brand, you'll probably wear them out prematurely.

Otherwise, fill yer boots :)

I've got BFG AT's on my 1996 disco and they seem good to go... I do a lot of camping and therefore motorway miles... they have been pretty good all round so worth checking out.....

I've run Discos for many years on A/Ts and they've done very well green laning. I've run my Defender on A/Ts as well but now have M/Ts permanantly fitted and they are great. I don't usually do more than 60/70 mph on the road and hardly notice the fact that I have M/Ts fitted.
I have now found that a defender with M/Ts is good for off road and a Disco with A/Ts is great for on road so I have both on the drive. Why have a spare set of tyres and wheels? Buy a defender to go with your Disco! After all, shotguns and pistols often come in pairs!!!:D

Ideal wheel size,?

Is bigger always better? And is it werth adding a lift kit i know how i would like it to look in the end buts it comes down to safe handling during long distance
