Tyres for a smooth ride....or am I taking the @"%*

Ok,so we're only 30 miles into my/our new life with Leroy and having nothing to compare to I'm bound to have some first impressions.The problem is are these impressions what I should be expecting?.So it's not the smoothest ride I've ever had and there is definitely a soft whining coming from the rear.Don't get me wrong and I certainly don't want to upset the purists,I wasn't expecting air cushioned suspension but my gut feeling is that the tyres could be partly to blame.I'm not planning on crusading across Castlemorton common just yet so I don't particularly need a set of tyres that would help me do that.The rears are and I quote:Forceum ATZ 235/70 R16 109s xl and the fronts are,again I quote:
Goodyear Wrangler AT/R 235/70 R16 105T.....Sorry if I'm covering old ground but the other threads that came up didn't have anything for the Discovery and the sticky was for...well BIG tyres.So,in short,any thoughts for a tyre that will aid a smoother ride.? (I will be keeping a spare set for I am sure temptation will lead me astray at some point )

Yep,your right,more info.....I'm hoping to keep Leroy indefinitely,he's only done 104k and hopefully won't take to much to make really special.Usage wise,he will be our everyday workhorse includin the taxi runs for the two teenagers and all the associated school runs etc.Avon..yay...is a big part of our life,so many journeys to and from reps locations as well as a 7 hour stint every 3 weeks...and every now and then I might just sneak out and drive.

Oh my word....eek: How many tyres??..Thank you for all the excellent advice..There are loads of AT'S (Yes,I've only just realised what it stood for...duh.)..Coopers have both the tyres that are already on,so that can narrow it down some.Also the Scorpion STR seems tasty...

I've run Discos with Scorpions STR before but to be honest the best overall compromise I've experienced has been General Grabber AR².

They gave great, reassuring grip in all conditions, were quiet and comfy and lasted nigh on forever. They are about £20 per hoop cheaper than BF Goodrich equivalent and about the same as Cooper STT

Its all individual preference really, on my last discovery i had Michelin latitude all round, lasted ages, the discovery i have now had the old Michelin tyres that came off the production line with you cannot get them now, so i had to change the 2 front, don't do a lot of miles, goes off road when i have too, but only as a car really, got 2 General Grabber HTS 255/65 R16 H (109) off black circles, fitted at a garage near me, balanced etc, whilst car was there had it all tracked as i didn't know it history, so no uneven tyre wear, the way winter has been, car went everywhere in the snow it had to, and we had a fair bit of later, so had to use car for work for 3 days, pulled ifor tipper in snow with full load no problem, after all its a 4x4 not a saloon car, so you cannot really have best of both worlds! but i am impressed with general tyres, but after admit its got goodride on rear, cheap ones i think, they seem ok, but will replace with general in future, also i have been buying cheap alloys as they come up on ebay, got 2 new alloys plus 2 Michelin tyres unused,been spare wheels, £90.00 upto now spent!
