I've been trying to get a decent answer, but no luck so far, gonna try and keep this to the point....

I currently run 235/85/16 BFG MT's.

I dont really like the looks of the new BFG's, so I think I'll be going for a set of Cooper STT's.

What are the pro's and con's of going up to 265/75 size. Most importantly, what will it do to my MPG? as i do alot of road miles.

I know a set of AT's would make sense, but I've got on really well with the BFG's on the road, and off it.

this is turning out to be a much harder decision than i thought :(

are you talking about the new km2 MT's by BFG ??
 
I am guesing that you do less than 10% off road driving and to be honest that 90% of road driving is the important bit. No point in a tyre looking good if it wont cut water on a motorway or gets scary going around corners or stopping.
This tyre size calculator Changing tyres sizes - tyre size change calculator shows your new size is just fine. (providing the wheel arch covers it to make it road legal) But MPG will be effected slightly by the tread you choose.
Dont be rushed, its a lot of money to spend and being safe on tarmac makes sense.... you are right...a good AT tyre is sensible.
I spent 2 weeks researching....... I ended up getting standard General Grabber TR (mud and snow rated) mainly because I am an old fart who would rather wear comfortable safe shoes than high heels:) but they got me 'clear rounds' on 2 off road challenges at shows last year even tho they look very, very boring.

Yep. I think they just look far too aggressive.

From various reviews and talking to other people, it seems the STT's have the best road ability, and wet braking than the other MT's. Also people say they are not so good in the mud as say the BFG. So it seems they are between an AT and a MT.

I do 20000 miles a year on road, but still dont want to be let down when i go laning in Wales or out on Salisbury Plain or in snow etc.

And I just feel 235's look wrong on Freestyle alloys :(

why do you think 235 look wrong on free styles , i have a set of 235 ordered for a set of free styles on my defender, i think you probably think they look too narrow ?
 
I'm running Cooper STT's 265/75/16, love em;) my landy went through a local speed register, 45mph on the clock read 46mph on the digital sign! The tyres wear good, a little noisey on the road but no worse than most, don't think you'd be dissapointed with them ;)
 
the insa turbo 'dakar' look identical to the old bf MT so the man at paddock said. They look mint at 265/75/16 and thats before i've got them on.hopefully tomorrow :) i'll let you what its like on the road.
 
Well the difference in radius between a 235/85 and 265/75 is 0.2% so speedo issues aren't a concern.

I just don't think 235's suit te freestyle alloys, and that 265's fill the arches nicer.

So do people think that going wider to 265's but going for an AT pattern would counteract any fuel usage increase?
