Hi all!
Am a new owner of a 2005 Freelander 1 and I want to replace all four tyres I have they are currently 225/55 ZR17.
I've found on some sites (freelanderspecialist) that you CAN fit 235/55 R17s on a 17" rim, would it be advisable to fit 235/55s or stick with 225/55?
Not sure which way to go here...
Cheers and hello all!
Marley

Marked on the rim itself or the tyre? sorry, car is snowed over right now, will check back with you tomorrow for answer.. tyre is marked 225/55/RZ17

Go for 225/60/17 or 225/65/17 as a better range of tyres is available in those sizes. You can squeeze a 235/55/17 on but the extra width makes little difference to handling but is harder to decent AT tyres for, it that's what you're after. Yokohama Geolander G015 in 225/65/17 is a popular 17" rim choice as it does everything you'll ever need from a tyre.

225 section tyres generally fit without need for spacers - although it'll be close to the spring cups at the rear.

some info here re. 225/65/17 ..

i fitted that size after doing the air-intake-mod ( link in signature )
i figured performance on-road would improve with slightly higher gearing ..
worked a treat ..
also noted that the larger size tyres were a bit cheaper than the standard size ..
at the time ..
