Hi
I have a 92 ex military 90 Defender with a 2.5 TDI engine. Its done 52000 miles. When would I need to change the cam belt can anyone tell me?
Also under the fuse box in the cab are two oval holes. These let cold air in to the cab and does anyone know if I can get some kind of grommits to fit here
Thanks

if u don`t know when the cambelt was last done, do it now for peace of mind and are you sure those are the only places cold air is getting into your cab, it is after all a defender...

Temporary fix - tape over the holes with gaffer or duct tape until you find some grommets. Pay a visit to your local scrappy and find some suitable grommets from any old motor. Make the holes round to suit the grommets and Robs your Mothers brother.

cambelt should be at about 60K isnt it? I'd do it now to get it out the way. The rubber grimmets I think have been removed mine are still there so I think you can buy them i dont think you will ave much luck in a scrappy tho fue to their size Jai

morning jai :) yeah 60k sounds about right although, if i didn`t know how it was driven/looked after i would do it now for peace of mind.

Hi Fleck.
Very early this am!

Taking into account its ex mil I would suggest that you consider that it may have been driven hard flat out for some time and would recocomend you to change the belt asap. It may be that its had an easy life but seeing how most of the military boys drive I would assume the worst. Its non unknown for landys driven by the military to eat clutches and gearboxes they are looked after by the civilian and military mechanics. The landys are kept well looked after tho which is better than most landys.

got a good geezer in maidenhead berks, plus he has loads of spares and second hand bits. pm me if u want his number.

As above 60k is about right, but I heard of belt failures at 45K. Get it done ASAP, properly with a kit fitted, if needed. You don't want to find out the hard way.

For the 2 holes you can get proper bungs for them but they always drop inside you might have to go to a dealer or just frind somthing else
