Im thinking of either tray backing my discovery or bob tailing it.
What laws do you have to cover doing either of these and heard they have to be dvsa checked afterwards?

Officially, yes you should tell the DVLA about chopping the chassis, the chassis the longest part of the vehicle and most likely you will want to chop a foot off the back end and if you do that then you need to get it tested.

No doubt you will have many saying "oh no, don't worry about it" or they'll be saying "oh but you're not changing much".

If you make a very tidy and decent job of it then there are no reasons why it shouldn't pass.

Is the body very rotten or are you looking for a make work project?

Rotten in the boot. Im going to fix it either way but my thoughts was to either bob tail it or tray back it at the same time. Its just knowing what has to be done for it to be fine if needs testing

If thats the case, i might just repair the body and leave it how it is. If i knew someone who knew the laws and what it entailed of having to be done. Then it wouldnt be as bad

To be honest it seems to change year by year, I know guys who were doing stuff like pick up conversions and just getting the logbook changed over without any need for testing a few years ago and it seems to have changed again in the last 2 years where now even body mods need testing, before it was just chassis.

Used to be an IVA now it has morphed into something else BIUAVA, from what I have read.

Oh & if you do chop it you cannot just weld a LR cross member on as this also changes the conformity.

I would leave the chassis as is. Truck cab the disco & tray back it.Saves moving fuel tanks etc.
I have seen plenty of cages on Chopped (off-road only)tray backs that do not meet any safety standard as the rear stays have too much an angle to the rear.

as you are only changing the style of body don’t think the sva applies (but check)
