How do all, first post here
Recently acquired a Freelander 2002 petrol and have removed the rear prop VCU front prop assembly as I believed it to be seized. This has cured the noises but now I now have three questions.
Do I need to blank off the now exposed connecting bits of the IRD and the rear Diff? I am still using the vehicle.
I intend to drain the IRD oil as described in another thread to look for bits of metal to check for damage. While grovelling under the vehicle I noticed a slight oil leek on the rear diff can a similar test be done to this to ensure it is not damaged prior to buying a new VCU?
When purchasing a new VCU (plus the bearings its hanging on) does the prop shaft assembly need to be re-balanced? Is this balancing done per item in the system so my two prop shafts are balanced the new VCU will be balanced therefore the whole system will be balanced?
