How do all, first post here

Recently acquired a Freelander 2002 petrol and have removed the rear prop VCU front prop assembly as I believed it to be seized. This has cured the noises but now I now have three questions.

Do I need to blank off the now exposed connecting bits of the IRD and the rear Diff? I am still using the vehicle.

I intend to drain the IRD oil as described in another thread to look for bits of metal to check for damage. While grovelling under the vehicle I noticed a slight oil leek on the rear diff can a similar test be done to this to ensure it is not damaged prior to buying a new VCU?

When purchasing a new VCU (plus the bearings its hanging on) does the prop shaft assembly need to be re-balanced? Is this balancing done per item in the system so my two prop shafts are balanced the new VCU will be balanced therefore the whole system will be balanced?

Many thanks in advance please do not hesitate to throw any other thoughts into the soup

I would spray the IRD and diff flanges with Wd40 to keep the rust off but that's about all you can do. The propshafts don't need balancing as they are balanced as separate item's during manufacture.
