Hi everyone, new to this forum. I recently purchased a 2011 manual TD4 XS and have had the car about a week now. There's 3mth warranty on it. The battery has already been replaced due to random fault messages being displayed but my concern £££ wise now is that occasionally the rear near side wheel will lock when pulling away. Research I've done is pointing toward the diff and hope I'm not going to be grossly out of pocket soon. I had been thinking about a FL2 for a while and while i'm happy to now be a LR owner, this has tainted things for me. Apologies if this has been posted way before. Help/advise please? Reconditioned unit perhaps?

When you say the wheel is locking, is it stopping dead, or just showing down momentarily as you turn the corner?
If that's what you mean, then it's most likely the Haldex at fault, as it's engaging when it shouldn't.
If it's under warranty, take it back and get it fixed.

Thanks Nodge68. It kinda slows down, almost a judder. Very randomised. But today the car was collected by the dealer who has said he will get it checked at an independent garage. All of the faults I have listed/sent photos of should be fixed. I get the car is 12yrs old but it should be mechanically sound at the very least. I'm not completely blank when it comes to car maint and can do most things but this is new territory. Hoping to learn a few things.:)

What you describe is a pretty common issue with the GEN 4 Haldex. I don't know of a definative cause, as different organisations have attributed it to different issues in the unit.
However there is an aftermarket mod to the control module which does seem to solve the issue.

You're better off posting issues in the general Freelander section of the forum, rather than this engine section. ;)
