Hi All,
I've been getting some trans failsafe mode messages and the trans will only stay in 1-4 not go into 5th on some occasions. Faultmate gives some canbus faults so I figure its just trying to muck me about with electrical gremlins.
I figure a good clean of the motor connector and associated wiring contacts might be the first port of call, it never gets put into high range - which I'll have to address occasionally, but I don't want to try until I'm sure the electrics are all making a circuit.
So the question is: RAVE only lists procedure for removing said motor, do you think I can get away with a disconnection and clean up without the whole transfer box neutral fuse 37 thing?
Thanks in advance...

Ah... good point
Ok for clarity:
it never goes off road so I havent shifted the gizmo to whatever range / ratio that would be to do the off road, going up steep inclines, stuff..?:)

Ok, so what do you think - is it possible to just pull the plug and clean up the connections or should I go the whole hog?

I know little about the L322, but trans fail safe is usually a gearbox problem not a transfer box problem. I suppose you could try selecting low range and see what happens.
When was the gearbox ouil and filter last changed?

Gearbox oil changed a couple of years ago - but one of my previous threads was an inquiry about 1st gear roll out ( inability to select first gear when moving off from a rolling stop ) I had a S type with this fault ( zf6 gearbox), so wondered if the oil level was correct. If you think we're talking transmission issue - it could be worth checking the levels. The only reason I thought transfer box was due to the naming and shaming in the fault codes - which I'll check again tomorrow. Its just odd that the transmission fails to change up to 5th on occasion, and there's no rhyme or reason for it that I can see.

I believe the upshift can be prevented if the box gets too hot as a cooling strategy.
What fault code reader are you using and what exactly are the codes?
Auto box oil needs changing regularly, not sure of the mileage but could be 24/36K.

Code reader is a Faultmate, as for the codes there's a caveat... I can't say how long it has been since they were cleared as I had a real problem getting the faultmate to work on the car - so some of these could be historic. For the Bosch Transmission ECU - no faults were listed, however this lot was listed for the Siemens Transfer Box V1.27
Battery under volt
Instruction 2 lost from Can
Instruction 3 lost from Can
Noise on Actuator signal
Invalid fault code 52FO28
ASCI lost from Can
Invalid fault code 52E624
The noise on actuator signal I looked up and I think it was a possibility that this could be poor contacts. Hence why I was thinking of giving it a bit of a deoxit treatment.

Battery under volt:eek:
That could be the cause of all the faults, they do like lots of volts, I'd check the alternator is charging properly and that the battery is OK.

Thank you - I'll stick the meter on it tomorrow and see what it says, my real problem maybe it just sits around too much...

ayy, range rovers don't like sitting for long

way too many electronics to kill the battery !

get yourself an optimate trickle charger to plug in when your not using it.

Whilst mine was off the road "undergoing some work" I left it just over 2 wk's thought I'd better try start it and charge it, I wasn't too hopeful TBH but she fired straight up as though she had been already used that day.

Well impressed.........for a change !!! :D

Depends on battery condition a state of charge.
