Hey all, my 300tdi auto seems to have alot of vibration when accellerating, when i ease off the throttle and let her coast no more vibration, so checked all the uj's which seem fine to me also the rubber donut on the rear prop although starting to perish and crack hasnt gone all the way through yet (gona change this asap) the engine and box mountings seem fine so im wondering if there is summat up with either the auto box or the transfer box, also im presuming its not normal for there to be a nice clunk when i select reverse and sometimes when i select drive after being in reverse, one thing i did notice is there seems to be alot of movement in the front prop which when turned back and forth does make a nice clunking noise from both transfer box and front diff so im wondering if the front diff is either knackered or on its way out any suggestions or opinions guys ????

Just for info me disco has done 130,000 miles

i have the same on my depender, the input flange on the front diff seem to have a lot of play, so am gunna replace the bearings this week, thanks for the step by step guide trewy :D

Mines done that clunking when selecting reverse then drive since I got my Disco last year.Sometimes its quite loud .I was a bit worried like you at first but did a bit of research and found they all do that to some extent .Splines on drive shaft in transfer box wear giving excess play. Some Landy owners say theirs have done it for years. So far done 7k in mine and still cunking strong. One day there will be loud clunk and no drive. No splines left on drive shaft!

Well hopefully it will go for ages yet cos i cant afford to do any major repairs at the moment :( i was to be honest more concerned about the vibrating under load i wouldnt have thought that worn splines on the shafts would create that as once they are under load and in motion then the slack is taken up i dont know it may be just how they are ive got nothing to compare it to .... hence a thread i put up a while ago asking if anyone in suffolk has a 97 300Tdi auto that i could go for a ride in .... i know one thing tho after a good ride in it i feel like ive been walking on shingle for an hour
