Toyota (spits) Mechanic anywhere?

My mother, may she rest in peace (when she dies), is as unlucky as i am with cars..

She got a little Toyota Aygo 1.0 Manual...45k on the clock...tootled around for 6 months and 1000 miles...now the gear changes are getting difficult and the garage says its a new clutch..they are known for this apparantly..

Now she got an extended warranty thru one of these companys at £30 a month but the clutch isn't covered..wear and tear..fair enough..so, as the toyota garage won't do it under that warranty i'm looking for cheaper places..

My question is..anyone know how many hours labour it is to drop the box and do the clutch? I can get a clutch for 80 odd so i'm trying to get her a ballpark figure...she's 70 so every penny counts and all that..I read that toyota charge up to £680 for this :mad:

I did a toyota corsa (and yes thats an import toyota same as a starlet so may be similar)clutch in 2 hours last year without ramps so i should'nt expect much more,mates supra was done last month for 300 quid including the 4 piece kit.Toyota take the **** with labour.
 
it was a serious point.
I assume it dont have multimode transmission?

Aisin or Blueprint parts aren't bad just in case you shop around for yerself ,Aisin are what toyota put in as standard on older cars not sure with new fangled ones but worth a look,euro car parts were the cheapest for blueprint parts as i recall.
 
Just euro part a pump for my latest project £235 recon exchange with old core sent back and service30 discount. locally was £600-800+vat
 
The Aygo, Citroen C1 and whatever the tiny three pot Peugeot is (107 ?) should all be the same or very similar on clutches.
I`d see what an independent specialist in any of those makes says by way of a quote - down here there are no Toyota independents but there are Citroen and Peugeot independents, so I`d get a quote off one of them then one from a good general service garage for comparison.
Maybe also look for a local mobile mechanic who has done a multi-franchise apprenticeship and see what he would charge ? They don`t need to be Toyota experts, just not fazed by new stuff
 
Cheers guys...if she dont get it done a toyota it voids the warranty (which doesn't cover the clutch). £580 Eek Eek!

I'd be tempted to do it elsewhere/self but its her car and she wants the warranty so....looks like a whipround in the family this weekend.
 
**** the warranty they are very simple cars and nothing goes wrong with them!!!
They are so easy to do storm you can lift the gearbox in one hand so no need for ramps, just use trolly jacks and lay on ya back!

How will the warranty co. know you have fitted it before you took out the extra warranty!
Sounds like you can't be arsed and would prefer your mum foot the bill instead of doing a couple of hours work!

Erm..why dont you drop your cock and stop presuming stuff? My mother is 70 and when us kids aren't around relys 100% on the car to get to shops etc...i would do it and have even got quotes for her from indys and offered to pay..but she insists on getting it done under the terms of the warranty because she's frightened something else may go wrong in the future when we're not around to help..

For your info i've been here for a week waiting for a part for the 90 and in that time have painted the house, inside and out, dug the garden up so she can potter around and moved the shed...

So, your 'can't be arsed to do a couple of hours work'' is correct..i'd prefer to do a couple of days...

What an asshole...have you done much for your folks this week?

Got my mother a new car and serviced it:p her Car had intergalactic mileage on it
 
Just a thought, Storm....
I thought it was now illegal to put this sort of clause in warranties. My understanding is that any company that is VAT registered ( ie no back street cowboys) must be allowed to carry out warranty work.
It might be worth taking legal advice. - pm Spudy????
