Towing electrics

Hi all,

I've been working on my tow bar over the last few weekends, new bolts, sanded, painted etc, however after fitting a new bracket to mount the electrics to, I noticed the plug itself is in bad condition, the old bracket is snapped and rusted to the back of it etc.

Decided to buy a new plug and just rewire it. Is this a case of simply cutting the old plug off and wiring up a new one, or will the battery need disconnecting?

shouldn't need to disconnect the battery.but if you are unsure,do so.as(make sure you have radio code) long as you don't have ignition on you should be fine. cut the old plug off,strip wires back and re-assemble,also,make sure you have enough spare cable to do it.

If it's the 12N type (trailer lights) then nothing should be live with lights / ignition off. If it's a grey (12S) or 13 pin then one of the cables is normally a permanent live so needs battery disconnect.

You could always disconnect the plug behind the rear right hand tail light!
