Just been reading our local weekly publication (actually the one Jeremy Clarkson started out on many years ago). In the motoring section was a very interesting report on the Thatchem testing of the new Defender. It is too aggressive and robust in a head on collision with other vehicles. Excuse me but isn't that supposed to be the point of a Land Rover, toughness. When I was younger that was one of the main points of owning a Landy that attracted them to me. My series 3 and Disco both had numerous mishaps and came out far better than the opposition. I'm I bit more careful in the P38 as it is for comfort and not a work horse like the others were.

You just cannot win these days I know what car I'd rather be in.I've been in a couple of badun's in Classics.the first was a boy racer in his mum's Marina.I was waiting to turn right into a car park,I heard him before I saw him.he dropped a gear and accelerated turning left on a sweeping bend into the road I was on.the next sound was the squeeling of tyres when he saw me,then the impact.I got out to find him unhurt ,very lucky as the gearbox was inside the car between the front seats.when the steam cleared i dtove forward to assess the damage.my tow ball cover was split and one bumper mounted fog light was dangling by the wire.I ended up towing his car into the car park and left him to find a phone to tell his mum.thesevwere the days before mobiles. The other was a car salesman who overtook me while i was turning right,or should I say tried to.he hit me square on under the drivers seat. Not a wheel turned on his Escort as they were pushed against the wheel arches. I drove away from the scene but the car was banana shaped.

I have had a few like that, a woman who went into the back of me a young lad who started firms van up in petrol station in gear and had and lost an argument with my bull bars an old mini head on into series three bumper and lost. I drove away all the others were on flatbeds.

Crumple zones do come in handy on the extremely rare occasion you might need them
But then if they really wanted to help people why do they let cyclists share the same space as 44 ton artics, and not fine people crossing the road while looking at their mobile
It feels like car safety is already at a high level especially with new AI crash avoidance systems

Thought this was going to be a thread about me tenor.gif

Don't mention cyclists, I got told off by one for not getting out of his way whilst walking around a local market which in on a Pedestrianised area. A group of elderly ladies rounded on him before I got the chance,I think I was so shocked at his cheek. The missus was impressed at my self control, normally the bike would have had to be surgically removed from where the sun doesn't shine.:D

Used to run my Disco on used cooking oil, my cousin was head chief at a local spicy type restaurant and cleaned his fryers once a week. So for me 60 ltrs a week, just had to filter it. Any way had a very irritable cyclist in Sheffield one so got in front of him slowed down and let the exhausts kick out some of the finest and boy did he choke. After that he stayed well clear:D:D
Used to do it to tailgaters too

Once bounced a guy over the bonnet of my MX5 one day in town who stepped out whilst rattling on his mobile. Only thing hurt was his massive ego as he got some right stick from passers by

To be fair right in front of me yesterday i saw a nissan juke turning off of an A road 60mph limit usually a pretty clear road too. She went front right corner to front right corner with a ford fiesta spun the fiesta 360 and it stopped in a driveway/garden and stopped against a block wall.
Fire crew had to cut the juke and the fiesta, airbags had gone off, but luckily once the doors was cut the drivers was both out and walking about uninjured.

If either car was more ridgid i think a slightly more sore outcome would have been.

Once saw a sticker on an old defender 'My crumple zone is your car' doesn't that count
Reminds me of a chap in Hereford who had on collision with a defender right up the defenders arse, the chap in question had a Honda Del-sol unfortunately he wasn't wearing his seatbelt and ended up flying out the car and onto the defenders back end.

According to people at the scene he had to be pressure washed off the back of the defender

The defender driver had a concussion from headbutting the steering wheel and a bust knee

quite a scene.

Do you mean if it was a Land Rover it would have gone through the house

Around town you cannot beat driving a piece of crap, on the roads proper any modern car is the dogs danglies for safety.
