Here you go chaps, your morning mission should you choose to accept it.

We have exhibit A, one landrover 110, 2.5td.

Battery seems fairly well charged, volt/ammeter in cab showing only a little less than normal (and it is a cold damp morning) Lights shine properly etc.

However on trying to use the starter motor, it is as though the battery is flat. This has happened a couple of times before, generally on cold mornings, my thoughts are led to bad earthing or connections as the battery seems to be OK.

Found out the battery connections, battery-chassis earth, and the lead connecting to the starter motor. They all seem tight enough so I giddem a bash wi'anammer. Still no joy. Can you think of anything else for me to try? I can't bump start it without maybe 6 rugby players because of where I live and where I'm parked. Jump leads are also not an option :)

it,ll involve spending money on it so thats you fooked :D :D :p

*** snigger ***

check earthing points from battery to chassis.
check earthing cable from starter motor to chassis
run noo cable from battery + to solenoid - see if that spins it over.

I got the same prob too, but cant be arsed to check it ;)

you say your battery is showing ' a little less than usual'? what voltage is it showing? It needs 12v + (ideally 12.5v) to start.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

no need to be sarky  bearing in mind that I've been ****ing around all morning trying to start it, it now shows 12.31v. I'm gonna tek the battery out of my sunny and try jumping off that, but we were fairly sure it was the connections and not the battery. ah well we'll see lol.

Is it turning over slowly , just clicking, or nothing at all?

turns over slowly a couple o times. I'm beginning to think the battery has just got no bollocks.

Anyone know how much a battery is from halfrauds with a trade discount card?

reet can someone lerrus know how to get my starter motor off so i can clean up the connections please? haynes manual just states to remove connections from rear.. wtf? would help if they gave you a picture. I've got the earth strap off the frnt...

Y u wanna take the starter off? Start with checking ur battery connections nincluding the earth and the earth to the injun. When u crank it over do any get warm? Can be a good indicator. Didn't think there was an earth strap on the starter btw????????

I want to take the starter off to clean up the connections to the starter and solenoid. we believe that a bad connection is the problem. I've done the battery connections, and the chassis earth, and the engine earth. All thats left is the positive connections, the starter and solenoid. and yeah there's one bang on the front of the starter, its a 19j

Stand corrected bout the earth strap.
If that's all that's left then I guess that's where ur problem is. If you get the starter off - undo the bolts - I would check over the solenoid while ur at it. U can also test the starter - clamp it in a B&D workmate or something cus otherwise it will take off if it's working properly............
