6 months ago i brought my first range, its a 98 4.0L in woodcote green. I spent 1600 on a LPG conversions that consisted of a 90 litre donute tank in the boot and works beatiful. However just before chirstmas my BCM waas registering blown fuses when they were fine. Got it checked by a land rover mechanic and he has told me that the head gasket haas gone as well.
I don't know whether to pay to get my baby back on the road which all together would be around the 3000-3500 mark, try and sell it whole aand breaak down the car into bits and sell it that way. Any thoughts would be appreciated aand any others aas well.

Firstly.....where are you.....may well be someone local that can help; need to get a Faultmate on it to read codes - might save a fortune, so update your profile!!

That apart and given what you have said, and spent already, it would be daft to get rid.....if that's all that is wrong. If you can't get codes read PM Irishrover for details on BeCM, and get a local independant to give opinion about head!

You would loose more breaking it and would have a half stripped motor on the drive for ages.......with the sites help get it fixed and take it on the chin;)

Its so much money tho which i don't have at this point in time. Why did it have to break down. It was my baby but now i feel like its betrayed me.:fighting:

you can fix it for a lot less than you have been told, i did my engine a year ago same problem. if you need any help getting a good engine send me a pm. as said your becm can be fixed or replaced by irishrover..

Why dont you try some irontite stuff in the engine, its worth a try first then repair the becm and see how it goes? if engine is still buggered then a good s/h one wouldnt cost the earth and any garage could fit it.

Ive got to the point that if i see anything cheep on ebaay to fit my p38 i snap it up cos for sure its going to be the next thing to go ping. swap you for mine with all the same problems. :D

I know how you feel... I had to get mine on a towtruck today - coolant hose blew up - Yepiii I have a steam engine - So now I'm in for headgasket job.... thought I could keep it going for aa couple of weeks until I had gotten hold of the parts needed.... but the car decided otherwise apparantly...

Get another engine and fix the car - too much money spent already to "throw the car away now"....

Keep us posted...

as has been said get it fixed Irishrover can sort any becm problem and also it may nor be the becm may be the fuse box also as was said try some sealer it might buy you enough time to gt the cash ready for a new lump

You obviously know you`re asking a question that`s impossible to answer, but, won`t stop anyone here from doing it!
IF all the rest of vehicle is good, then probably best to bite the bullet and repair it. After having it for 6months you should have found any existing faults. Especially if you intend buying another which could turn out much worse. If you`ve any niggles with this `un (and be honest with yourself about this! No rose tinted glasses), then maybe better let her go.
Irontite or summat may buy a little time to get some funds together, so worth a go for the few quid it costs, but don`t hold your breath!
Look around for complete replacement engines, you could strike lucky? Try to hear/see `em running in a vehicle tho` or get a good garantee (if there is such a thing!). Repair? Not too hard an engine to work on, lots of help from this site and others, but do it right, or you`ll be doing it twice!
Breaking or sell as is? Depends on you. If you`ve the space/time inclination could make more breaking, but,as Juicy says you wouldn`t want boxes of oily bits stacked up in your front room, and a heap of tin blocking the drive!
Do all the work, have the g-box go bang next week? You`ll be shouting at us all. Don`t do it you`ll believe it would have been roses all the way if only...
Remember it`s difficult to predict things...especially about the future.

repair the engine, get it top hat linered. in my view top hat liners are the best option.

the engine is easy to work on and can be in and out in a few hours. the stripping and top hat work will take a while longer tho.

get a reliable engine and the sort any little niggly bit out as money allows.

once complete you will have a car that will last a long time and you know it wont happen again!!!!

top hatting stops the liners dropping when the block cracks so it doesnt matter. Its really the liners dropping thats the problem, if they where top hatted from new they would have been alot better. Its all caused due to being over bored 3.5 blocks,as they dont have enough alloy between the liner and water way. When they over heat the block can crack and then the liner is free to move down the bore, water then gets up the side of it and into the combustion chamber. :blabla:
