Hello..
I have a softtop on my Defender. But i'm not sure how to clean it right. Any good advice and tips??

The last softtop i had on was a Exmoor trim Canvas top. I only used water and a soft brush.
But that did not keep the softtop clean and nice.

After one year the softtop started to get a little moldy inside.
After two years the softtop started to get a little green outside. I would wash it off but til came back faster and faster.
After three years the softop started to tear. Small holes over the front seats. The rope rings started to come loose. And a last the rope in the tailgate section teared loose...

Now I just got a new Exmoor trim Canvas softtop. How do you recommend I wash and treat it? So it might last longer than three years.

ive just cleaned my softtop with a light solution of TFR. Its removed all the crap from it. However it is an acidic solution so you dont want to leave it on! I washed mine off with LOTS of water. Its taken the canvas back to its original natural colour. Even removed the dye!

There are lots of cleaning products out there, and rewaterproofers such as Nikwax and the like.

You might look for products designed for canvas awnings / tents etc. They are probably much cheaper than anything "landrover canvas" specific.

I use fabsil it's quite expensive but does a good job. On my 109 before the water would soak through but after applying it just beads up and rolls right off. If you start by doing one half you will see the difference I just apply it with a soft brush. If yours has plastic windows soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge and then rinse with water.

Clean with as little detergtent as possible and treat with Fabsil annually.

The Undercover Covers soft-top on my 90 has been on for 12-years now and it still fits properly and is perfectly water-tight, I have replaced a couple of frayed straps and of course the ropes are not original (I use elastic anyway) but other than that it is in excellent condition, even the windows are still relatively scratch free and have certainly not gone yellow or brittle.
20-years ago I bought a new soft-top for my 101FC from All Wheel Trim, (I think???), that was very good and fitted well but I don't know about how well it lasted as I only kept the vehicle for about 5-years.
Later I bought a soft-top for my 90 from In Stiches 2 and it was a disaster, too tight and badly put together it was good for nothing after only 2-years. Enough said that the company stopped trading soon after.

if they behave anything like one of my boat covers stick it in the washing machine (launderette) refit let it dry and treat with water proof spray as other have mentioned. never done any harm to the cover still the original colour size etc.
