evening all,

any recommendations for cleaning engine and engine bay? i've always avoided doing this following a near disaster 30 years ago with a Talbot samba (long story!!) , but want to give my 110 300tdi a spruce up in the engine department. what potions do people recommend to shift oil, grease and accumiulated detritus??

I have some autobrite products which i might try, extreme bike clean, chain and sprocket degreaser etc. but do you use Jetwash, steam clean, hosepipe etc? do you leave your engine running? do you avoid any parts??

cheers in advance

Steve

I like Gunk and a reasonably stiff(ish) brush, followed by more Gunk and then a jetwash on its medium to low setting.. Avoid the delicate bits like the radiators and intercooler etc and dont concentrate the spray into the fuses, alternator or the bunch of electical connections by/below the clutch master cylinder.

You haven't said but I presume you have a diesel engine ?
If it's petrol then ypou need to cover the distributor with a placcy bag first.

Use an airline to blow dry the engine/electics and get any pools of water out of the nooks and crannies.

Great advice, thankyou. its a TDi diesel so no dizzy to worry about. good plan for the airline, i haven't got one but do have a pump i got for blowing a paddling pool up and i use it for blowing the water off my motorbike once i've washed it.

i'll remember to do a before and after.

cheers

I use TFR and rinse it with a hose, careful on bare Ali though.
Washed it with a sponge before blasting with pressure washer.
In general I can't be bothered so blast the top of engine with brake cleaner and an old t shirt.
It's not even my truck!
Mine, never done the engine bay.

Get an old paint brush for the stubborn bits ...
