thanks again for all the advice, ill get the garage to check the pump this morning, i know when the AA came the 1st time to me he said id flooded the engine and had to remove the fuel pump fuse to get it started. also the garage its at now tried to start it 2 days later on and they commented there was a smell of fuel in the engine bay.
would a failed fuel pump cause low compression on 4 cylinders?
i will ask the garage to look at the fuel pressure sensor and the pump today though.
Wil2813 the garage isn't too far from you who has my car - opposite the Aldi in willenhall.
I'm thinking if theres no joy today, getting it moved (again) to either MVS in essington or John Craddock in cannock
 
If they blew a fuse for the window, there will most likely be other electronic damage. If enough petrol has gone down the cylinders, it washes the oil off and lowers compression. If 4 cylinders have good compression it should still fire. I't possible the engine ECU has been damaged or there is a sync problem.
 
Like he said above. A reasonable compression on these engines is 160 psi. Seems odd that only one bank is affected though. Could it be a cam timing issue after all ?

well the garage say that they checked the timing and it hasn't jumped! i advised to check the fuel pump which they say they have checked and its not that as fuel is being pumped through, also they are now saying only 2 cylinders have compression! we have gone from having 4 working at 170 and 4 working at 40-50 psi to now only having 2 cylinders with compression!

they say they don't know what the issue is and want to completely strip the engine down to find out, its going to cost a small fortune. thats b4 they no what it will cost to repair when they do find the issue.

Id get a 2nd opinion, engine strip is a drastic measure when you only took it get a battery.
Get it to a specialist
I assume the original garage is taking some responsibility?
you might be getting fuel, but are you getting fuel pressure? i was getting flow with mine when my pump went, but i had no fuel pressure
 
the original garage said we don't know whats happened1 its done there head in and pushed out on to the road for me to move! taking no responsibility! I'm thinking when i know what it is preparing a small county court claim to try and recover some costs as i took it in working went to collect it was working apart from the windows all being down, phoned next day to see if all ok and thats when they said it was rubbish car!

2nd garage are engine rebuild specialist but not for range rovers

Im pulling my hair out!

when i suggest to the garage certain ideas for a fix they kind of say there the mechanics and I'm not!

As Deasy says...it may have fuel but it will spurt out of the schreider valve under great pressure.....

This garage know feck all about Range Rovers.....they are a complex beast and they saw a Range Rover pull up, reckon the owner has some wedge and they want to wrench the feck outta you for it....

Get it to a decent Indy LR Specialist for their opinion .....

Owning a Range Rover is an expensive hobby if you cant DIY your own repairs and yes they will test your patience and they aren't for everyone as you have to have a little sense of humour when they break down and if you need a garage to repair it - deep pockets too.....

I'm thinking when i know what it is preparing a small county court claim to try and recover some costs as i took it in working went to collect it was working apart from the windows all being down, phoned next day to see if all ok and thats when they said it was rubbish car!

I'm no lawyer but I think you should at least write to them to document the sequence of events and faults now, before too many more people get their hands on the car. In fact Citizens Advice or Solicitor would be a good idea ASAP as this could get messy and expensive!

the car was in the unit with the windows down overnight.
i have this evening spoken to a LR specialist in my area who can't see my car till mid march as he's too busy, but he was a helpful chappy, told him what happened and he says it sounds like the engine ecu & maybe the fuel pump. and in no way agree to an engine strip down.
so tomorrow ill get the car out of the garage and back on my drive i think, order an ecu & fuel pump and then get someone in to code the ecu to the car ,and if that doesn't work - ill sell it for spares/repair.
can a 2nd hand engine ecu be coded to a new car or do i have to get a new unit?:mad2:

yes I know it, don't think craddocks would take it on tbh but not sure as I only pop in there now & again more of a service & parts/stockist/ fitter /etc don't think they build engines.only good engine builder I know is john toovey (toovey race engines) in cannock.mvs are good but I recommend someone else tbh as they are the only company I will let near my l322 + hes a good friend of mine;)
 
it was ultimate land rover in dudley that said it doesn't sound like a rebuild just something electrical like ecu etc, I've also called phoenix 4x4 land rover specialists in wombourne and he's asked me to call back in the morning for a chat, again doesn't think it sounds mechanical more electrical due.
thing is would something electrical cause low/no compression in 4 cylinders

Wooooaaaa nelly. Don't just start ordering stuff on a whim! That's when it gets really expensive! Get it home then pm me and il pop over n test the fuel pump for you. I'm near cov so not a million miles away
