throttle pedal position sensor

I have a Disco 2 TD5 2003

I fitted a second hand pedal (bought as tried and tested and in perfect working order) - but now it is in limp home mode all the time (M&S lights flashing).

I have tried switching off, getting out, locking car, getting back in and starting up again - but no change.

My code reader is giving me 3165 - faults detected with driver demand

Does this mean the second hand pedal is no good?
Or is there some other reason for being in 'limp home' mode?

Google search on the fault code throws up many answers but a lot pointing to the wiring between the pedal and the ECU, some have rewired and cured the problem

Thanks for quick response. My thinking is that I doubt if it is a wiring issue as before I fitted the second hand new pedal I could drive it.

dont know the year yours is, but i think early 2 pot pedal wont work on later 3 pot car

+1 for that^^^ if the SH pedal you've got is early 2 track modell it will not work on your facelift... or actually the pedal you've got is faulty... now as you wanted to go cheap spend some more money for a proper diagnostic with tester and read live data on TP inputs

May not be the throttle pedal,the ecu outputs a 5v supply to it - and several other sensors around the engine.Check the loom hasn't rubbed through,esp around the front of the cyl head/AC compressor area.Easy to do and can save some money.Scoping the outputs of the throttle pedal is a reliable way of checking the throttle pedal,but is not always easy to get checked if local garages don't have the kit.

@sierrafery I am reading live data from my Lynx diagnostic interface. As for 'going cheap' - I was saving the pennies to get medical aid for the bruises I now have from laying on the door threshold

I will refit the original pedal so at least I am mobile again until I can sort it out.:decision:
