... for my 4.6HSE.
Guys can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get one urgently.
None of the motor factor places seem to stock, and im not that close to a stealer.
Any idea of cost? Mail order options??

Basically, don't think mine is opening fully and it's back pressurising through the expansion tank, with cap off it starts to slowly overflow as engine warms to running temp.
Car has NOT overheated at anytime thankfully, it's been sitting for a few weeks now parked up anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah it's a V8, and thanks for the offer - unfortunately we are 200 odd miles apart as im down in Surrey...

sorry could not help try motor factor he be able to get you one sameday. are you sure it is therm? with top off all v8s water flow out with top on dose it run hot? do pipes go hard? have you look at thin pipe that runs from rad to expation tank?

They all flow out with the cap off? Is that right??
It does not run hot at all no, temp guage never goes above about 1mm to the left of center of the gauge.

The pipe back from rad must be clear as it's flowing back into expansion tank.

Radiator seems to be cool. I've only run the car for about 5-7 minutes max at a time in last 3 weeks.

Main stealer wants £63.18 for a thermostat. Robbery.

Oh yeah, top hose feels pressured, but not rock hard.
Nor do any other hoses feel that hard, but they are hot, and the water with a finger dip feels very hot, but can't tell the actual temp, it steams a little from expansion tank.

seen them on e bay £20 i would put top on start up and see if top rad pipe stays soft or gets hard also while ranning have a feel of hose that comes out of rad into therm and out of therm lots to look at befor you go out spending your hardearnd cash. why you not been running it any longer?

I felt the pipes coming out of rad and into/out of thermostat, not pressured and not that warm either.
Only been running short periods as noticed this problem after car had been off road due to EAS needing reset and flat battery. Was giving it all a once over…
Very nervous about it overheating and HG or something going!
Where are all the temp units? I guess if it doesn’t over heat, it shouldn’t be a problem?

know what you saying we all nervous about overheating i think i would take it for small run just nice and easy round the block lets know how you go j

Where abouts in Surrey are you?

I use Autopost in Merton for my parts - 020-8540-5437 but not open on weekends.

Have you taken it off and tested that it doesn't work?

Walton on Thames area. But I work close to Merton!! Will give them a call thanks.

No, not taken it off, a job for when I get home tonight, but should I run round the block first or check out the thermostat in a hot saucepan beforehand?? What am I really looking for, how can I tell it's opening at the right temp?

I would check first that the pipes to and from your radiator are getting hot.

Run engine, put heater on full, run engine, get up to normal temp and check pipes to from radiator are getting hot. If not then possibly thermostat not working.

Take out thermostat, put in pan of hot water and monitor temperature with oven thermometer, it should open about 90c I think. If it doesn't replace with new one, if it does then you've got another issue

The V8 thermostat is not like a standard unit in a box...it's encased in a plastic housing with outlet pipes moulded into it and the actual thermostat can't be removed or replaced without wrecking the housing. Because of the low number of P38 V8's highly unlikely that a motor factor will have them. Stuff the robbing dealers..get one from Autopost..will cost you around £20.
