Bet you are all sick of overheating 300's and people asking about them.

Just crossed Europe. No problems at all in regular driving, round town, motorway, no issues at all.

Climbing big hills in the Alps, on full power at high revs, basically on maximum possible power she starts to warm. I get perhaps 40 seconds to a minute of this before it starts to creep up and get hot. I've taken it close to the upper white line but not played chicken and seen if it stabilises before the red marker.

Has new water pump and stat. Bled system when parked uphill on a decent slope - all caps on then fill the rad full - cap back on rad. , then fill the thermostat full - cap on stat, then fill expansion tank half full.

It gets some pressure in the system when it gets warm but not a huge amount. You can take the pressure cap off without it spewing huge amounts out.

The rad is new looking, and the old coolant wasn't rusty or gunky. there doesn't appear to be any cold spots on the rad.

All I can think of is to have the new stat out and check it's opening temp. I understand this should be 88C?

Does the odd 3 way hose from the bottom of the expansion tank and the stat bleed have any bearing on this? One way valves in there at all? Not sure what the function of that part is.

Is there a problem or am I just being optimistic on how good the cooling is? Should these engines be able to run full power all the time without getting excessively hot?

thanks in advance.
