Why do landrovers feel the need to create yet another spin off of the RR?.

I've got haemorrhoids on my arse'ole that are better looking.

All modern manufacturers are losing it..

I'm sure it'll look good in the school car park, where it belongs...

I can see why it would be aimed at the Chinese and US markets......... lots of money, little class ;)

That said I was surprised by the Velar. I quite like it, just the lack of interior space lets it down.

I think it looks like an audi?
There was an ameriAmeon YouTube did a review on the Velar, they had it for a day, brand new...
The software crashed and rendered the machine useless...that's kind of scary really!
He went on to say he wouldn't like to own one out of warranty... He actually owns an L322. So wasn't biased! Doug demuro? I think his name is??;)

You....what???....Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......

OK, OK, OK...... I understand the Velar (just) and it is an exceptional looking vehicle and a good nod to the history of Range Rover - when the original Velar came out it was ground breaking in terms of its design and ability etc....so the modern Velar is a good example of ground breaking tech and stunning lines etc (although I am not 100% sold on its looks but it is better than the Ejoke!) - but this.......

Have Land Rover gone so far outside of its heritage with the Ejoke, the Disco Sport, losing the Defender, making a convertable Range Rover Ejoke, and pretty much ignoring the Freelander .....that they feel it necessary to try and revive their history and bring out another Range Rover based model and calling it the Road Rover - I mean, WTF.....it is as if they sat there and thought - 'Hey, no one knows where Land Rover came from, no one remembers our history....(cos we are making crap SUV's for a mass market rather than niche vehicles for people who deserve and respect them)....Let's bring out a couple of models that reflect our past, then we can explain to the 'Land Rover Newbie Owners' what the name means, that way we can introduce people to our heritage....'

Come on Land Rover - I am all for companies making money, thats the way of the world - but don't do it at the expense of your name, brand, heritage and history - all you are doing is cheapening the brand and insulting enthusiasts....

not only that Saint but they are destroying their market position.

The market is littered with UV's and AWD wannabe offroad vehicles, from Kia, to Skoda to Porsche to Jaguar to Bentley. The market position for Land Rover with RR was an offroad vehicle of luxury. They have effectively handed away their market position to have a 'me-too' product in an already crowded market sector.

they would have been better off playing their strategy around their market position, rather than a strategy based on what everyone else is doing. The RR is not the most reliable of vehicles, we can all admit that, but the trade off was that it wasn't an SUV, but an offroader, with a product that is historically maintenance demanding and in a crowded market place, why not go for something with reliability is what the market will say. They are basing a strategy on what the product used to be, not what it is !

Having been sold to FORD/BMW/JLR/TATA all of the unique elements have been pored over and copied by all the big players surely?
All the advances seem to be in expensive techno-gimmickry that fails all to easily and costs far too much to repair.
The ruggedness and simplicity of the earlier models are hard to better IMHO.
