just checked the loom on my newly acquired D2 TD5 and you guessed it, oil in the multiplug. Still running sweet as a nut, so dried it all out, clean and nice, until I get round to changing it.

If I am going to keep using it, how often would you recommend checking the multiplug to make sure the oil buildup doesn't get too bad? And it it just one wire that causes this problem?

That is what I thought. Guess that's another £40 I gotta spend. Oh well. Just shelled out £30 on a pair of horn buttons!

what are the 'usual' symptoms of oil in the injector loom?

Some say it can lead to misfires, rough running.................the two Td5's my Father got this last few weeks both have oil in the looms, but no symptons . .I check mine every 6 months....Much easier to do than worry about it. Do you have oil in the red plug?

Cheers

well i havent checked yet but its running 'rough'. doesnt seem to affect power as such but at 2000 rpm there is a growl and a slight vibration. just had a 2nd hand torque converter put in but it changes gear fine. i havent really looked in depth yet but it is going back to the garage on thursday for a look. injector loom was just a thought tonight really.

Just change the loom anyway, they aren't expensive. Should be considered as a routine service item on Td5.

Loom is a piece of cake to change over.

New rocker gasket, jobs a good un.

I had oil in the red plug, changed the loom and cleaned out the plug, had to clean it a few times over the period of a couple of months but every time got less and less.

I just cleaned it out with electrical cleaner and an airline......

Some really good walkthrus on tinternet

Just a couple of questions for those more knowledgeable than me. Looking at the Britpart kit, the loom you get is not the whole section back to the red plug. Is the oil in this section of the loom likely to be a problem?

The loom under the rocker cover is where the oil gets in in the first place, and then by capillary action, works its way down to the plug through the rest of the cabling.

the oil will slowly leach out of the section between the rocker cover ( injector loom) and the red plug.

Give it a blast of electrical contact cleaner at the red plug and it will clear itself over a few weeks or so.

Cheers
