Yes it’s was a Jaguar produced engine as fitted to the D3, RRS and RR back then, and it wasn’t fitted to any Jaguar vehicle.

Many thks as always

see they can be bought for around £6-7k for half decent one

alas only do low mileage , 1-2,000 miles max in a year

don’t know if I’ve read it right but supposed to be the jag AJ8 engine , would assume around town 15mpg on a run maybe 20mpg, dropping to around 12 mpg in the winter

Don’t know if it’s right but a petrol engine is more forgiving for not being used all the time , don’t know how true that is

heard good things that there suppose to be bullet proof, also wouldn’t bother with LPG

just looked , insurance group 42

If I only did a couple of thousand miles a year, I'd have the V8 petrol, no question. It's a much nicer engine than the 2.7 V6 derv unit. Doesn't suffer sudden crankshaft failure, and doesn't need timing belts to be replaced.
The only thing I don't like about Ford based engines, is the reliance on powdered metal con rods, which can stretch at the big end, if lots of high RPMs are used. Otherwise the AJ41 is pretty bomb proof.
I had a D3 V8 for a few days, before I bought my TDV6, and it got about 16 Mpg, compared to the diesels 21 Mpg.

Do it Gary. You'll not regret it. Most are HSE spec, so loaded with toys. The only thing I don't like, is all V8s seem to come with cream leather, which I hate, and I feel the V8 is overpriced.
If I found a sensible mileage, sensible priced V8 with black leather, I'd have it, no question.

cheers, that’s what I’m also thinking because I do very low miles

may i ask what did u think of it plse, bet it was very quiet at motorway speeds

Might get shot for this but would have to get an auto , can’t push a clutch down any more

plus apart from the engine everything else I know what I’m looking for , don’t think it would be to bad to service myself

Smooth and quiet, more quiet than the TDV6, although with a lovely V8 berble in the background, especially if you give some beans.

The V8 only came in auto, so there's no choice anyway. ;)

Same as the TDV6, although the brakes are larger and more expensive, but strangely last longer. Otherwise it's identical to the TDV6 with maintenance.

thks, am the same would like one in black , interior black as well

for all the time I can remember I’ve always wanted a V8 ,

dam it I just looked

It's a shame it's so far away from me, as I'd be tempted by that little beauty.

lol, mot history doesn’t look to bad

think I would feel nervous at first servicing it but of course only difference would be going back to spark plugs, lol

That’s handy there all autos , will also check what the ins will be

Ah yes , nothing like the V8 burble , plus u know I wouldn’t put my window down going through a tunnel ;)

had mine 4 x years now and nearly finished it , so the next owner will only need to do basic servicing , everything else has been done , paint work is immaculate and don’t think I would have any trouble selling it

might be able to trade it in , plus at least if it took me a year to find a decent V8 it wouldn’t be any hardship

he seemed to be gone awhile up the road ..... was he filling it up with fuel ?:D

lol, also wonder how many members here have V8 landies

know it would take me a while to learn the different engine but like my current one , will just ask daft questions like I always do and check the manual, ;)

also don’t want one with LPG

For the mileage you do, LPG is a waste of time - struth, for 2k miles per year, having a car is almost a waste of time ! ( and I am not suggesting you do that ! )

If you've got an itch to scratch mate, you carry on and give it a damn good scratch :)

Hear hear, fully agree if you got an itch, scratch it! I do that many miles in a month and still have a 4.4. V8 , albeit a TDV8.

Cheers

I wouldn’t have 1 V8 in our stable:D:D

just do it G:)

aslong as you don’t pay much to change don’t think your mileage and fuel cost comes into the equation.

For all us engine nuts , found this interesting , yep I need to get out more, lol

thks so much as always for the sound advice , am so grateful

indeed won’t rush into it as I learnt with this D3, need to get one that been looked after and not buy a money pit

wouldn’t care if it took me to the end of the year to find a decent one, seeing there’s plenty for sale and many to choose from

Know where ur coming from ref having a car ,if I was 100% healthy I don’t think I would , but seeing I can’t walk for miles anymore it’s just so nice that I can go anywhere

my first port of call with be the cost of ins, then cost of general servicing parts

can also read a lot more into the engine so that I’ll have a better idea of what to look for, the rest I know from having this D3

also heard that ref LPG , wondering though if I see one with LPG if I should stay away from it, even though I would remove it I would assume possible damage has already been done

looks like the only difference is engine and brakes , uses the same ZF6hp

Thks so much and will be interesting to make this the V8 purchase D3 thread so can keep all the tech stuff in one place along with as I know the fantastic tech details from everyone

Can’t thk u all enough
