Have for a good while considering getting a petrol V8 , now had my D3 for 5 x years and really fancy a change

looks like the D3 is the 4.4 V8 ( think it’s 2006/7 onwards for the jag engine ) , the D4 a jag AJ-V8 Gen III 5.0 litre supercharged both in auto form

just seen this and there out of there mind demanding that kind of money, latest D3 would be a 2009 before it changed to the D4 but my god prices have really climbed

After all the work you have done on your D3?

i know that’s the trouble, am in mixed minds

have now got it up to a high standard , got the new 19 wheels to fit and maybe upgrading the brakes to the bigger V8 discs all round , apart from that everything else is done

like everything , if I get another disco will have to start all over again , must admit really like the discoveries

The V8 D3s are getting more sought after definitely, I looked at maybe 10 discos before buying my tdv6 last year, one was V8 but was in a sorry state.

The fact that they are LEZ exempt helps as well. The prices are going silly, look at the 55 plate V8 on auto trader... £20K. No really.

I've had my V8 for a couple of years and still love it. It helps that it's on LPG, but at 20mpg it's not far off the diesel and servicing is less so not far off. The rest of the car is pretty much like the diesel so complex and frustrating. I've read the V8's were only available here in 2005 with just 300 being registered. They all have the Jag engine. The D4 gets the 5.0l supercharged engine but very few were registered here. I've looked at importing one from Japan but it's a lot of money to pay out on a car you've not seen and might not turn up anyway

Umm, not sure what you mean. Only the Jaguar AJV8 was used in the D3, there are no other petrol V8 engines used. ROW markets did get a 4.0 V6 based on the Ford Cologne engine as a base option instead of the TDV6.

Maybe you are thinking of the L322 Range Rover which used the BMW engine in pre facelift models?

D3 V8's seem fairly rare. I was always surprised by the price and mileage of them when I looked. Should be nice, although I've never driven one. Quicker than the diesels, but not overly sporty and even US road test complain about the mpg they get. But I agree, there is an appeal. Although apart from the engine and maybe better spec than your current one. It won't be much different to a diesel D3.

The D4 I don't believe was offered in the UK with a petrol engine at launch. So no V8's, unless they did a very limited run. But more than one place says only outside the UK...

I've never seen one at any rate.

However it isn't the Supercharged engine, it is the n/a one. Although they make a lot more power than the 4.4 did. And yes, all V8's are auto. I think the ZF-6 speed was only available with the 2.7 TDV6.

If you want a V8 and newer, then Jeep Grand Cherokee or Range Rover/Range Rover Sport might be the answer.
