The Big Debate - Britpart or S**tpart?

On my previous series 3 project it came with a box full of replacement parts, including all new brake components made by britpart. I fitted all new brake components which was fun as the brake springs had to have the ends ground down to fit and the drum retainer screws did not fit at all.

I must have done 100 miles before one front wheel cylinder burst and when i removed the drum I also found that on both sides the brake shoe material was severely scoring and wearing very badly as if the material was too soft. On the other side one had cracked on the friction material.

I changed it all again with a proper brand and had no problems since.

Britpart are MEGA ****

12 months ago u/j went on front prop..

picked one up from adventure and when i got to work i pulled front prop and dropped it at garage next door to stick the u/j in..

they let me kno bout lunch time that both u/j's needed doin.. couldnt get back to adventure so garage said they would get one and stick it on too..

one of them let go at the weekend...

can you guess which one and who supplied it...

With this appalling reputation I am amazed they haven't been hit by Trading Standards or some other investigative body? There must be garages all over the UK fitting their stuff in people's vehicles so I would have expected a lot of complaints going back to a lot of commercial installers.

perhaps the garages etc buy the oe or known branded or pattern that does have quality rather than just the cheapest from britpart ,when the trade bought all parts they wanted quality as well as price,now general public just buy the cheapest ,market provides whats demanded

well after my problems with ****part lift pumps (2 on the trot going south).
so once i'd fitted a better quality 1 this is what i did with the ****part 1

Do peeps just keep buying em and chucking them in the bin, or keep sending em back for credit & replacement?

Coz surely the suppliers would soon get fed up of all these returns?

Are genuine LR parts still of a high quality..?

Reason I ask is, I used to always buy Volvo parts, (for Volvos obviously) which it has to be said were brilliant quality and lasted longer than anyone would reasonably expect...then after Ford bought Volvo the quality of the 'Volvo' parts went seriously downhill...even the staff at Volvo said they were just Ford parts in a different plastic bag...

With LR now having changed owners a few times I wondered if anyone thought the quality of spares had changed..?

Lucky me!! Drove 20 mile to a indy Landy garage for a full upgraded timing belt kit, come home and read this thread and guess what kit I got? Yup bleeding Britpart. It,s for a 300 should I be risking it or bin it, and put it down to experience. Anyone any experience of them please let me know...

personally i have had no probs with Britpart, but if yu reckon it can fail prematurely, yu wont go far wrong......
think about howmuch time it takes to do the job - if it was a trackrod end, or uj, i wouldnt be worried, but a timing chain kit.... its a bugger to do and could cause a lot of damage. yu choose.

Stick it on eBay for some other shmuck and buy yourself a decent kit. 1. It's a long job (just done it myself) 2. If it goes wrong, it can cause all kinds of badness. Get the best you can.

FFS Britpart frigging donut failed today it took out the diff main baring with it so I now need a new rear diff 24 spline going to do the prop mod and get rid of them.

Brought a pair of Britpart Defender front indicators to bolt to the side of the Disco headlight box section. Went for the cheaper Britpart option on the basis of 'they're indicators - what can possibly go wrong?!'
Wired them up - no indication of indicator indicating... Had to strip them both down and fiddle with the internals in order to get a contact on the bulb!

How a manufacturer who consistently produces unreliable, faulty products is still in business, I'll never know.

Just don't use them for functional parts. Got a windscreen which I cant get the rubber to sit right. Almost like glass just too big.

Either way, it appears any cheaply, mass produced part which they choose to put their name on fails very, very quickly and is clearly not fit for the purpose.

yes the cheap **** is often poor ,market calls for it unfortunately ,with ebay etc people just choose on price

Well if you use mm4x4, first thing they do is open the britpart catalogue.

Having had a britpart master cylinder fitted to my td4 freeby, which lasted 6 months before packing in.
Also speaking to them at LRM Newark, asked 3 seperate staff members for the correct pads for my 04 model freeby, as there are different pads for solid and vented disc's. They were all sure it was the ones i got. They were wrong.

****part for me, shall never buy from them again.

id always go for EBC greenstuffs pads anywho

but definately ****part
