I get your point of view and agree to some degree, but the people who pay bottom of the market price for products that are of not great quality moan when the product fails and complain as if it's a full price genuine item thats failed. But we all know the saying buy nice or buy twice! Britpart cater for the "value" market.

It's no dig at anyone but something i don't understand, A friend of mine who's a mechanic says people seem to buy cars/vehicles for a lot of money but when a expensive part fails, they will not pay to have it fixed and drive with broken part because they cannot afford to replace/fix. Now answer this for me if you can't afford to fix it then surely you shouldn't own a vehicle effectively you can't upkeep? again that's not a personal dig but a query.

Morale of Britpart is you get what you pay for, i haven't had any real issue so i can't truly say they are ****, but like i said about the bearings they failed and i replaced with very good quality Timken bearings now i have no issue.
It's like tools... buy cheap and if it lasts a lifetime then they ain't crap, if they break you replace with good quality.

The subject is super controversial but yeah if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I totally agree with what you say above, although I think you really have totally agreed with my point I made before because Britpart are awful yet they still exist because of the reasons both of us have now listed. I think you have also answered your own question in your post above as to why Britpart still exist, as you say and give anecdotal evidence of people mostly want to do things cheaply and I don't blame them for that, as a civilisation we spend more money on more things and we generally have less money to spend on any one thing.

I do get annoyed if someone buys say a £1 seal for a 4 hour job, then on reassembly it leaks, the good seal was £10 - well sorry, but that is too big a gamble, if someone buys a £50 vac pump instead of the £90 quid pump then I can almost see their thinking, a couple of bolts and a pipe and it's off so they take the risk and maybe do it twice. If is brakes or steering I would always say go for best you can get, on anything life critical. I also have to ask if the good part is £20 and the cheap part is £5 how is it the cheap part can be made and sold and someone made a profit for that price without it being rubbish.

I now want a part I can pick up, offer up to the vehicle and it will fit perfectly, preferably comes with new fitting hardware etc. and just does what it is meant to do.

Time is valuable and so is money, but you can make more money!
 
Just replaced my Britpart back box that arrived three years ago dented and leaking along the seam. Prepped it and painted it before fitting hoping it would last a year or so longer than normal. Got three MOTs out of it before it fell apart. The one I replaced it with was under 25 quid and you guessed it....................another Britpart one that also came leaking on the seam. Used the last of the remaining paint and bunged it on. Heres to the next three years, although the middle section and front pipe will probably go next.
Its crap bt cheap and like you say.................. OK for easily replaceable perishables.
 
I bought calipers, swivels, brake pads and discs from, all good and the landy gets used well.

I don't touch anything electro from them, like the main light switch on the column, and the guy I bought the fender from had fitted a britpart slave cylinder and couldn't get it to bleed ( I chucked it and put a genuine one on).

I guess some things are good, particularly impressed with the pads and calipers so far, but definitely not the best for everything!
 
i've had my fingers burned on 99% of the stuff i have bought from britpart, which is so far (and i write this mostly for my own benefit in future lol)

britpart air intake hose (air cleaner to carb elbow) for 2.3p ninety, was too short by about 3 inches. reason for purchase, genuine land rover prohibitively expensive

britpart rear bench seats for 2.3 ninety. one end of the back rest welded at the wrong angle and gap filled in with weld. and when i say wrong angle, i mean it was 15-20 degrees wrong, therefore reclined way too much and would not fit. after fitting i used them twice for actual humans, both times were children under 15 and only 1 child per bench seat, both seat bases bent in the middle. reason for buying, they were a gift and i didnt know better

btitpart outriggers for 2.3 ninety. after welding to the chassis rails they were about 5mm too short, bolt hole to bulkhead wouldnt line up and i had to use a portapower to force the bulkhead feet to alignment (mega tension). reason for buying, only product available at that time.

britpart front door rubber seals for 2.3 ninety, drivers side seal top run was about 2 inches too long. had to return it for a refund. reason for buying, land rover item prohibitively expensive.

britpart head lamps for 2.3 ninety, fitted fine, no visible problems with quality or fit. reason for purchasing, got sent in error when ordering wipac crystals. but was held to ransom buy impending MOT, and the seller refunded me but specifically didnt want the item returned. passed MOT ok but had advisory for vague headlight pattern

britpart fuel tank for 2.3 petrol ninety. absolutely hideous build quality, had huge ripples in the steel on the corners from when it was pressed from a blank, inside the tank i could see an actual fracture in the steel which had been welded up and ground down and painted over. swirl pot around pickup pipe missing. reason for purchase, only product on the market. returned for a refund, got original tank repaired

britpart transmission brake drum 2.3 petrol ninety, PCD of central bore was slightly too small and would not fit on the output flange in a million years, had to file it out. reason for purchase, other options prohibitively expensive

britpart accelerator cable 2.3 petrol ninety. cable core was much thicker than the one it replaced and stopped the carb returning to idle, purely because f the sprung strength bending round the throttle quadrant. rubber flexi boot disintegrated in 3 months. reason for purchase, land rover wanted 150 quid, britpart was 20 something.

britpart wing mirrors 2.3 petrol series 3, OK ! whoop whoop, but they were ashtree ones in britpart boxes, i.e OEM items not made by britpart

britpart head lamps 2.3 petrol series 3, thought i was buying OEM H4 head lamps, but britpart turned up, after calling the seller (which was a landrover main dealer) they told me britpart are now OEM, eeeek ! bowls and mountings were still wipac, odd. fitted ok, no problems since then

britpart 9 leaf front springs series 3 land rover. supposed to be 1 leaf at 0.2 inch and 8 leaves at 0.16 inch thick, are actually 8 leaves of 0.2 inch, 1 of 0.16. U bolts were therefore too short, ride height was too high (dampers would not reach peggs at full extension) ride quality rock solid. started long term dispute with britpart via the retailer, they supplied replacements which were exactly the same and told me nobody else has complained and theyve sold hundreds. this is despite me pointing out every single aspect of the spring specification was wrong, and observable facts after fitting them. reason for purchase, adverts claimed they were high standard, made by santana factory to OE spec, blah blah. they were not even cheaper than alternatives, and therefore i was well psssed off.

britpart 11 leaf rear springs series 3. fitted ok, no visible issues, but rear end was lower than knackered original springs, ended up fitting military shackles to cure the symptoms. reason for purchase, as above.

britpart spring chassis bushes (the long ones) series 3, one bush slid straight through the chassis, barely touching the sides (supposed to be mega interference fit) other bush was ok so i fitted it, bought an allmakes to replace the "bad" one. britpart bush lasted 600 miles before disintegrating, not a joke, 600 miles and the rubber had parted from crush tube, slopping side to side and clunking when going round corners. all makes bush still as new. reason for purchase, genuine land rover not available. replaced both with all makes.

britpart rear back box, series 3 petrol. fitted fine, average quality, only negative about it is that the tailpipe was about 3 inches shorter than the one i took off, as a result does not stick out beyond the bodywork and soot goes up my paintwork. reason for purchase, had rimmer brother vouchers and needed a back box within that price limit.
