The Big Debate - Britpart or S**tpart?

bailey and morris will be only using gkn or similar ujs ,its unmarked or parts with no manufacturer name that you need to think about when ordering ,if your prop was marked gkn id think you was just unlucky

I always try to avoid unmarked parts; when it comes time to replace the rear prop, I think I'll give Bailey Morris a try (same price as Britpart / GKN).

I'm new to Landrovers well not entirely had a 300TDi bout 10 years ago, but used to having hi maintenance cars me and the wife used to run Saxo VTR's and we found if you go for a mid range product it tended to last a lot longer, top strut mounts, lower arms and drop links were the theme of the day lol

Is there a list of companys used on the site, I'm needing some bits and bobs for my Disco and would rather pay a bit more for stuff that's going to last

Isn't 1 year a rather short live span for a UJ? The GKN's fitted by the previous owner on my 110 are 4 years old (approx 50,000 miles).

Update:
Just spoken to the seller, he assures me the Britpart unit is a GKN manufactured part (stamped as GKN) & he personally has used them for years without issue.
Reluctantly I've decided to fit it; but now wishing I'd bought a Bailey Morris prop shaft (same money).

Horses for courses. Replaced a110 rear body crossmember with britpart and it was a real good job. Well made and a great fit. I would not like to use these parts however for something mechanical.

Had a britpart water pump and did a whole 15 miles before having to replace it. Fitted a britpart thermo too and I'm not convinced thats workin properly. ****PART!!!!!!!!!!

Depends. Needed a thrust bearing for a K-Series.

Genuine LR was £33 + VAT
Bearmach was £22 + VAT
Britpart was £2.64 + VAT

Guess what I fitted...

Picked up various Britpart bits for my 300 Tdi 110 the other day, including a handbrake cable, speedo cable, clutch slave and some silicone hoses.

Taking bets on which bit will fail first

i'll have a fiver on the clutch slave.

Put us down for a quid on the cables.

Put me down for the Landy in general.

When I first bought my first land rover, I stupidly went out and bought a brake rebuild set from paddocks, supplied by britpart...

Needless to say, not impressed. The bores in the wheel cylinders were scored (which they blamed on me - they hadnt even been fitted at that point!) The snail adjusters for the wheels were not the correct size/shape and so the brakes couldnt be adjusted using them.

After a lengthy discussion with britpart, they refunded the money I had payed for them, and asked me to select products to the same value as renumeration. Good service, but my renumeration products were non mechanical! Mats and the like.

Now I only go for branded mechanicals!

That's the general rule. There is an old saying "moving parts...avoids Britparts"

I have britpart handbrake cable, speedo cable and clutch slave fitted to mine aswell as many other items and they have been fine.

My only britpart disaster has been a swivel ball that sheared off a few years ago.

Bit of a ****er that one!!

Pretty much the best advice, for bearings, seals, hydraulics and engine parts go genuine, for things like lights, mudflaps, seats, trim e.t.c. Britpart is fine...

Clutch cylinders seems to be a pattern haven't had one last more than 12mnth from britpart and I live in Worcester and always seems to go north of Manchester on a Sunday so allways a nice drive home but so far a second hand Lucas out of my grandads Sherpa has done 18mnth so doing well at the moment...

Hi bought a set of locking wheel nuts. went to fit ,nothing wrong with wheelnuts. but part that goes on socket had five locating pins . when i nipped first wheelnut up 3 of the pins fell out .sh''tpart

Can't really comment on any failures yet
but I fitted a set of rear diff bushes to the Freeloader so far so good,
My biggest gripe is Britpart is only three mile down the road and I have to order parts from my local garage as they don't have a retail outlet on site
However having walked round their warehousing I can see it would be a bit difficult to
have people turn up on spec and expect a fast turn around.

It is a pretty bog place.

There is no reason why they shouldn't have a trade desk, but that means paying some fok to man it. Stock will be computerised, so it wouldn't be to hard.

Anyway, they are the wholesaler, not the end seller.

I have had one or two bits from Britpart and they were ok but bought a wiper cable for my 90 defender so pulled out the old broken one and tryed to put the new one in. hmmmm would only go in just passed the first wheel box and stuck. So new wheel boxs ordered and fitted try to put cable in again and same as before stuck just passed the first wheel box. You need to remember that the cable was gressed up but after a clean down and inspection the cable was not uniform with the windings they became closer together at the point where it stuck. So as luck would have it i had another bulkhead in the garage so whiped the one out of that and it went in a treet. Moral of the story blue bags are binned....
