For the repeated questions, no, I won't try to help, **** off.

when they say king pins they mean swivel pins ,you can check by feeling for play as you would wheel bearing and seeing if housing moves over ball ,check steering box hasnt any play when when box is central(also check wheels are straight while box is central) either by pin up through rear of drop arm into box or count the turns (box will have play as you move to each lock ,get some one to rock the steering wheel while you feel for play in track rod and drag link ball joints

Britpart starter motor, bought new 18 months ago for 100 quid.

Has been perfect but just started giving jip due to being submerged in ****.

Will clean out and re-con, but so far been excellent and cheap too :)

new lift pump.... fitted bout 6 weeks ago..

been having poor running issues for a week or so... did an injun service... no better..

cleaned out sedimenter yesterday, then it wouldnt start at all.. tried to prime fuel system with lever on lift pump.... no effeect...

took off lift pump and the lever had snapped at the pump end... this was the cause of the poor running.. took back to shop, requested oem pump.. only had another ****part one.. so had to fit that...

see how long this one lasts...

britpart=****part.

There are plenty of crap parts about and these days you just can't get the right staff. Take a bottom ball joint that I replaced on a Rover 825SD. The box said Quinton Hazell but it might be counterfeit, anyhow after about 25 to 30Ks the ball joint popped (there's no greasers on these) I was not happy and went back to the Motor Factors but surprisingly the guarantee was only 12 months or 12,000 miles! What effing use is a guarantee like that? Mild steel would probably last a year and that's probably what they are making them out of. From what I've read there is a thriving black market in counterfeit parts and getting the right stuff isn't easy. In the Caribbean for example the place seems to be flooded with fake NGK spark plugs. On outboard motors they will run for maybe ten hours but they then go open circuit. Caveat Emptor.

You get what you pay for I suppose. If a genuine front cam seal is 12 quid with the vat and you see one for half the price there is a chance it could be ****e and cause more problems than its worth.

Its not worth the double labour cost, to remove/refit, to skimp on quality parts.

Re engine seals, these will be to ISO standards surely? The catch is that the seals found at Bearing Services or Brammer will most likely be Nitrile rubber which is OK but not the best for hot working. Take the seal on the VM 2.5 turbo diesel crankshaft (clutch end). These are marked "Parolio" and they are made of some kind of Viton or PTFE type rubber that resists heat like a non-stick pan. These cost more than the generic type but its a difficult seal to reach so also-rans won't do.

300TDi engines are made in several other countries AFAIK so it should be possible to get good quality parts.

definatly ****part bought a new mirror glass the other day went to put it in and its the wrong size about 3mm to big all round and its not themirror either as 3 dfender mirrors cant all be the wrong size surley and its not laminated nothing first nock and its going to break

I see from their website that Britpart have some jobs available too. Nothing very exciting at the moment, but a few weeks ago there was a vacancy for a 'quality manager'. What a scream. Your career might be short but it would be full of incident.

What's the consensus (have I been prop-shafted?)

Ordered a new GKN "EXTREME WIDE ANGLE FRONT PROPSHAFT" from an Ebay seller; what actually turned up on my door was a Britpart wide angle prop shaft.

Should I fit the Britpart shaft or demand the GKN item that I ordered?

Could quite easily be a Britpart supplied GKN unit...

What did you pay for it?

As far as i know, apart from the Bailey Morris props all these modern wide angle units are the same, irrespective of who supplies them.

I can't remember what I paid but I guess it was somewhere between 100 and 150, I know I bought the cheapest I could find on eBay, and tbh it has been just fine, just replaced my first UJ after about a year of use...

Cheers :)

I did wonder if it was manufactured by GKN for Britpart - paid £160(inc delivery). I've decided I'm not going to accept it as a substitution.

Isn't 1 year a rather short live span for a UJ? The GKN's fitted by the previous owner on my 110 are 4 years old (approx 50,000 miles).

Update:
Just spoken to the seller, he assures me the Britpart unit is a GKN manufactured part (stamped as GKN) & he personally has used them for years without issue.
Reluctantly I've decided to fit it; but now wishing I'd bought a Bailey Morris prop shaft (same money).

Let's face it, your not really going to get an OEM prop for £160, land rover units are cracking on for 500 quid!

I accept that you should ask why it says GKN on the listing when it was supplied by Britpart, but please remember that Britpart will not have made this, they probably bought it off GKN and sell it on. GKN want to sell cheap props to Britpart because they can't sell enough OEM quality ones for two or three times the price.

They way I'd look at it is this:

Have you got £145ish quids worth of wide angle prop in your hand? In my opinion you have because for that sort of money your only going to get that very same propshaft.

Indeed, you could send it back and they would send you another one back in a plastic bag with a GKN part number on it and it would be the same item.

Also, yes 1 year isn't a very long time, especially seeing as it has done around 2000 miles in that year, albeit mainly in mud and ****, but the main problem is that my v8 runs an oversize exhaust and it runs very close to the upper UJ on my front prop, and although I grease it every time I use the car it musnt take long to thin that grease.

I do however expect nothing less from a cheap prop! I have fitted a GKN joint in its replacement so we will see how it goes :D

Good luck on your quest :)

even genuine parts fail ,it will be no different to a gkn prop bought from anywehere else, genuine parts from dealer arent more expensive because there better than oem from anywhere else its just profit ,ive seen what lr actually paid for parts 12 years ago and the mark up is colossal

James, in your experience are the Bailey Morris units superior to the GKN?
