Changed my timing belt yesterday evening on my 300 tdi Disco. Dropped the rad, for better access and drained the coolant. Everything fine until refilling the coolant. Bloody plastic bleed screw snapped on top of the thermostat housing pouring coolant everywhere. It's 1930 by now, where the hell am I going to get a replacement at this time?? Did a search on here, and a quick dash to the local DIY superstore, 3 quid later and I have two nice brass replacement screws instead of the crap plastic ones. Just wanted to emphasise how much info is on this site if you do a search! Got me out of the crap, so thanks to all who share their knowledge on here. It's really appreciated, especially by the less experienced me!

Ashley, The plastic one just sheared off, after I had finished everything. I got 1/2 bsp brass flanged blanking plugs. Cost £1.48 each. Added an O ring to each to seal them. No leaks yet touch wood.

I bought the one on the right as a trial to bleed the system like a radiator, but it didn't seal properly as the shoulder wasn't wide enough it was Worth a go though!

Makes me wonder how I got on in the days without the www and Forums, I know, I use my engineering skills.

You are a sarcastic so and so. All the OP was trying to say was thank you to all the previous contributors - you just can't resist having a go, can you?

Sad muppet.

Guess he was born an engineering hero, and never learnt from anyone.

Not sure he was having a go, but I was only trying to bring home the fact that there is a wealth of knowledge to tap into on these forums. Bearing in mind the internet kind of took off around 1982, I would only have been 5, so I was burdened with having to live with its existence most of my life....lol

Still, no offence meant to anyone with my original post. It was just a general thank you to the more knowledgable members who contribute on here
