Hi
I am new to this forum but have been viewing as a guest for a couple of weeks. I got a TD4 HSE on a 54 plate about 3 weeks ago. My first Landrover against the advice from friends.
As soon as I drove it for more than 5 miles I had what seemed like a bad misfire After searching on this forum I checked the Rail sensor connector for corrosion, which was ok. But as I put the air box back on I noticed that a sensor in the turbo pipe just after the intercooler had a cable that was badly worn (No insulation and only connected by one strand of copper wire) .After resoldering the cable there was no more misfire .Think this is the Boost pressure sensor ??
Now I am driving smoothly I notice that there is very little low down torque (Below 2000rpm). After another search on the forum I find threads on the EGR and the MAF as possible causes. Check the EGR which is very clean and someone has all ready blocked off the vac pipe by putting a ball bearing in the line then reconnecting. So it must be the MAF me thinks !Instead of a new Bosch MAF I get a Synergy 2 from RoverRon. This made a big improvemnet to the pulling power of the car, but still difficult to pull away on a hill. What I did notice was that when the car was cold it pulled like a train from low rpm ,when hot you had to rev it to pull off. So I revisited the EGR and found on closer inspection that the ball bearing that had been fitted was not air tight. It slowly leaked if the EGR was operated for a time it would open. The problem was that the blockage in the pipe also worked the other way and it would stay open untill the vacum escaped slowly past the ball. Removing the pipe altogether and blocking off has transformed the car. It's now so easy to drive it will pull from 1000rpm in 3rd without any effort at all.

So thanks to all you guys who have posted on here. I am now very happy with the car

PS Out of interest I just tried switching the Synergy 2 off. I ve switched it straight back on again. The difference in torque is amazing.

Glad you got it sorted. It's always a good feeling when yu get something sorted by ya self.

Just gotta gaffa tape the doors on now so they don't fall off when it rains later.. :D

That's why most of us junk the egr & fit a bypass instead. No more egr issues.
