Hi all, I've recently bought a 54 plate 3.0 td6 hse and whilst being a beautiful car it has in the last two days developed a terrible noise (screeching etc) from the dash speaker even when the stereo is off!! Was told it could be damp in the rear amp but it seems o.K?? Any ideas as it's driving me potty. Is it safe to unplug the amp connector or will it cause problems or need reprogramming or something.. Thanks Dan

Wow that's a quick response ,thanks very much. I'm an electrical ignoramus but did suspect this maybe the cause of the problem. Do all audiable warnings come via the amplifier or is it just for the stereo ?I.e do I lose all sound if amp unplugged? Whats the best to dry it out and keep dry after unplugging, hairdryer ?. I've read the n\s rear windows are prone to leakage I don't think this is the case but obviously can't rule out condensation.

Take the plugs off the connections into the amp. There is probably green corrosion on the spikes inside the connecting socket. Wire brush and. Electrical spray should sort.

You'll have a hifi amp in the boot if you've got the HSE model

Deffo don't use a wire brush to clean the pins

Just in the process of fixing my water ingress problem
Water leaking through the tailgate seal like a sieve !!

I get that on my system. But only when some of the more outlandish pop music is playing on the radio. Sounds like somebody strangling a cat if it's a woman. Or if it's a male artist (I use the term ARTIST loosely) akin to the fellow having his balls in a vice.

Hi it's a single slot cd with no satnav

ok being a single slot (common on hse models) your in luck,i changed 1 the other day for a customer, cheaper alternative amp was sourced from a disco 2 ,same part number & only£30 (the bay of e)worked perfect;)just make sure no pins are snapped & stuck in plug before fitting replacement unit

Ok I've removed the amp lead and there was only very minimal green so I sprayed with contact cleaner and the problem persists?? . I notice whilst driving the noise dampens down with higher revs. Also as soon as the engine stops all interferance noise stops to. Could the speaker itself be damp or on its way out?

Any trace of green corrosion will cause problems, a quick spray will not remove it. I use plenty of spray and a paint brush (not one with plastic bristles) to agitate the cleaner in the base of the connector.

Still noise even after agitating etc. Seems to be a mix of interferance that disappears when the stereo is turned down and then back to pure screeching that doesn't cease even when you turn stereo off. By unplugging the amp would I only lose the stereo? Considering taking the dash speaker out..any clues before I have to start spending? thanks

Your picking up alternator
Fit suppressor to live and ignition live close to amp if a good earth won't cure it
